Taking apart a recalcitrant 3 D cell Maglite
Has anyone tried applying a heat gun to the tube to get it to expand enough to move the batteries away from the switch? If a heat gun would be too hot I have a hair dryer I used to use as a dummy load before I retired out of working in the electrical craft. Tom Horne- TD-Horne

No I abandoned that effort when I couldn't get the switch to move down enough to extract the stop ring. I took a tub wrench of the right size and a lineman's 2# pole hardware hammer to it. No. We have used tarp sheltering for over 60 years. Tents get too stuffy and hot. At one time only the older kids could use tarp shelters but the younger kid would pull their bags out of the tents because they got so stuffy. I asked about a separate battery box headlamp in an earlier discussion because they were available from surplus dealers for ~$10. They are the very lights that we used fighting wildfires when I was a lot younger. They take 4 D cells and run all night long on a single set of alkaline batteries...- TD-Horne
