What is Alisa?

What is Alisa?

I name my PC's. Makes it easier to keep track of them. And the name follow the motherboard, with the name being based off some feature or overall aesthetic.
In this case, "Alisa" is a robot character from Tekken 6. Was just a name that somehow popped up in my mind because the motherboard had 4x LAN-ports.

I think Alisa was my 2007-2010 build. Then it was "Power Pod" (2010-2013), "Silver Dragon" (2013-2019), "Ghost" (2019-2020, just 1 year because the i7 9700K CPU didn't even perform close to what I needed it to), and my current PC is "Phantom". Because ghost was sadly already used, the aesthetic is similar - despite new...everything, and I wanted to stay true to new motherboard = new name.
My home server is "Purity", because the CPU-cooler is pure copper, and the whole machine is 100 TB of pure storage.

I got 6 motherboards with name tags hanging on my wall, literally like hunting trophies, because I managed to kill all of them before I knew what I was doing. So they also serve as a "note to self, dummy!" every time I build a new PC, either for myself or doing a commission build.

I formally desired perfection but, alas, not the ability to attain it. I realized perfectionism was a roadblock to good mental health and kept me from completing projects. I often remind myself that only God does perfect work and that men should merely strive for excellence.

As I've aged the wisdom that set in means taking my time, forgetting about the finish line and setting my sights on the journey often results in....better results. Not perfection but much better than when the finish line was the objective. And careful planning often leads to quicker completion due to the old "measure twice cut once" mindset.

My last big project was taking sheets of pegboard off the walls of a delapidated shed and mounting them into a metal shed. Trouble was the pegboard was holding up the old shed so once it was all removed it fell over one night. But.... I was able to get all of the contents of a 14x14x10 shed into an 8x12x8 metal shed with room to move around. It took a few weeks instead of days and was far from perfect.

I formally believed that achieving perfection wasn't possible, but then I saw a picture of Mrs Fixer's Salmon Cakes. Now I'm a believer. 😋 😋 😋

Yesterday, I walked the first 9 of 18 holes with my grandson and a few guys.
A beautiful day.

17 years later, the garden continues to evolve.

With my blessing, our eldest has begun his role as Master Gardener of our home. The Lovely Mrs Gardiner and I spent the day shopping for some clumping bamboo with him yesterday. Living the good life spending time with a grown son that enjoys mom and dad's company.

Later, back at my mother's house enjoying a cool breeze, Margaritas, and Jimmy Buffett.

I don't know if clumping bamboo is different, but my cousin planted bamboo and he said that it is invasive. It's roots grow horizontally underground and new shoots come up and it continues to travel. He said to contain it, you have to bury 12 inches deep sheets of border.

• A planting for limited, yet uncontained space

… then go with clumping specimens!
But if you'd rather have…

• Less dense culms
• A narrow border or screen
• Erosion control
• Fast horizontal expansion
• Easier removal
• More cold- and heat-tolerant options
• Container plantings
• A bamboo grove

… then you should choose a running specimen!

Today the bamboo is no longer in that back yard but there is a wall of it about a mile long lining the back yards along the now abandoned railroad property. While in high school a bunch of us used to cut stalks for water pipes.

No, it was a guy named Robin 😱 who wanted the wall of bamboo to hide his pot plant garden in the 1970's. For real.

He got raided one day and spent the next 20 years in jail. When the house sold in the 90's the new owner destroyed the bamboo but by then it had spread a football field in both directions. Nobody really cared because it was a railroad easement. It stopped spreading south at a creek and north at a highway. Even the old railroad bed is a bamboo grove these days.

Yes, Living the Good Life is much more obtainable when one's property tax is not driving them from hearth and home.

For sure. Our property tax bill dropped 37% last year thanks to the Idaho homeowner's tax relief program (HB 292)!

It would blow ya mind how much they was on my old home. Battery's city thiefs who made up them taxes!!!! I hope everyone leave that city plus there we played county taxes to ...there should be a limit as how much they can raise taxes in a home you live in. ....
