Don't forget that Vf is usually quite a bit lower for red LED than white emitters.

L + LL (red, hi/lo) output (should) = (massive) runtime :D

Interested. Anxious to watch the discussion. Red sounds most intriguing but I need to study up on green and amber also. So far I don't own any Red, Green or Amber and a Malkoff drop-in sounds like a fantastic way to get in.

To make OP life easier, here are the links to the coloured leds i've got recently and i'm more than happy with them.
These have higher peak wavelength than some emitters that can be found elsewhere which means:

RED is 660nm Photo red or Hyper or Deep red (Hyper in HDS)

AMBER is 585-595nm true amber and not some tint mix (i think it's the same Amber in HDS)

BLUE is Royal Blue 450nm which in combination with orange glasses gives the best blood, stains etc visibility (Forensic Blue in HDS)

GREEN is standard 530nm, not 515nm as in HDS :( (but i'm too lazy to search for that specific wavelength)

Click on each color will direct you to the store.

Thank you kindly ID!

While bemusing of this I had thought of sticking with what HDS uses as a good baseline thinking we could tweak from there.

I'm in 660nm DR, LL or LLL sounds good to me!

I have Sofirn SST20 DR and OR secondaries amber.. Both are equally nice preserving night adaptive vision:takeit:

I would add the "lime" e17 to consideration. it is the true firefly color, so I suppose it would look great outdoors

and i wonder why the preference is with 61 rather than 31 drop in? to me 3v/3.7v version is much more useful especially with low power drop ins

M31 voltage is 1.5-3V. Not 3.7. Above 3V you will blow the dropin.

M61 means single lithium ion compatibility with great runtimes, and you can still run them off 1x CR123 for decent runtimes and outputs in a pinch. 3-9V is a huge compatible voltage range, can be anything from a single CR123 light to a 2-cell 18650.

Plus, that is what everyone asked for, if everyone in the Sounding Board wanted the 31 we'd have gone with it. I suppose it's not ruled out, but I know the interest would be significantly lower.
