I have a close friend who has been involved in the situation there since day one. He is high enough up the ranks to be well informed about all eventualities.
It was lack of maintenance.

Turbodog, I agree; we have brought this upon ourselves. More, cheaper, faster.

And the other two N-S derailments?

Multiple directions of problem making coming towards us, be it government, greed, enmity or ourselves, they're all a danger to us and ignoring the others in favor of one pet cause is a surefire way to allow the others to fly under the radar.

I see support for singular causes here in the thread, but it's worse than that. This is an "All of the above" scenario we're facing and the worst part of blame we can be guilty of is turning away from the reality that we don't have just this group or that working towards our demise, but "All of the above".

It should not be accepted as the norm, and simply shrugged off. "We" as a nation, need to do better. We put men on the moon, we should be able to get trains to stay on the tracks.
Follow the money. It leads to bad people doing bad things but because they donate to the right people they get away with it. The ruling class in America is out of control. Not the donkeys or elephants, but all of them.

Turbodog, I agree; we have brought this upon ourselves. More, cheaper, faster.

But more, cheaper, and faster has wrought the benefits of modern life.

If we capped speed limits at 10mph, nobody would ever die in a crash again... but the opportunity cost (time/productivity) would kill many orders of magnitude more.

There's a reasonable spot on the cost/benefit curve (usually determined by your insurance carrier). This was probably a notch too far on the wrong side.

I expect turbodog is familiar with the following concepts, however I mention them because they're relevant to the conversation.

There's a reasonable spot on the cost/benefit curve (usually determined by your insurance carrier). This was probably a notch too far on the wrong side.
The humorous 90-90 rule has numerous applications in reality - namely that the cost of hitting aspirational targets can become an apparent asymptote. Indeed some versions of the rule point to its origins in early jet aircraft development with the rule stated to the effect of:
Realizing the first 90% of performance takes 90% of the time. Realizing the last 10% of performance takes 90% of the time
There are acceptable levels of failure in many fields. That's just the local minimum of business - so long as they're small-scale, the costs of handling them is acceptable, and they're caught via routine process, leading to...

The 1-10-100 rule which states that the earlier an error or fault is caught and handled the lower the cost to the business. Prevention is cheap, correction isn't as cheap, failure is expensive. The temptation is to not bother with ongoing processes of prevention and correction - especially if failure is infrequent or draws little attention - because those are their own running costs. But roll the dice often enough and the worst possible roll will come up and then those savings from avoiding prevention and correction will seem cheap in the face of a catastrophic failure.

Now is the time for strong vigilance

Good video, @knucklegary ! I have been hearing reports like this for quite some time. There's no telling how many are getting through as "Got aways". I just expect enemy infiltration into our most vulnerable areas. I expect a lot of sabotage and arson. May be random, or timed to be simultaneous like 9/11/2001.

The Norfolk Southern terrorist group is sabotaging us by lengthening the maintenance schedule. Or maybe they just cut costs anywhere they can in order to show a profit every three months, instead of strengthening the company for the long haul (thanks Jack Welch).
East Palestine train disaster was caused by a bad wheel bearing, not enough man power on the train, and the corporate mindset of pushing it to the limit unless beset by a tragedy.
But you have to admit, too many coincidences and it is NOT a coincidence. I believe you 100% on railroad stuff, but that is everywhere, why NOW?? So I am not saying any of this to you specifically. It is just all of the accidents, explosions, plants exploding and on fire, livestock farms being eliminated (Gates and the UN eliminating cattle for meat when he owns fake meat plants that are poisonous), railcars crashing, trucks going over the edge or crashing, processing plant explosions and shutdowns, and do not forget the infamous chicken farms exploding and being shut down. This is just a part. Look at Maui fires, form the non 98% owned media pics of before and after (as in not CNN), and you will see specific mansions, hotels and some specific spots not burned. Then follow the owners of the same and the money trail. My view, is they were man set. Same with the massive Canadian fires. Now there is something to the ruling parties where most fires are, they purposefully ended forestation management years ago, but that is part of the large plan. Look it up objectively from all angles and all sources. The Maui photos by non CNN entities revealed much. Do not forget Oprah buying well over 1000 acres, Her and the Rock not giving money but asking for us to give, then they were shamed and gave? Then realize that Maui tried to use Imminent Domain to take the land, citizens voted NO. They got it by hook or by crook. IMO COINCEDENCES?? I think not, but we all are different in views.

Forget terrorism.... Greed is the biggest enemy.
A tricky saying, interesting though. Agreed (get it A Greed?...), in general, but Greed is all peoples and religions. Terrorism in the name of religion or for example, now, the Quran. It kills and destroys for no reason than you are an infidel. But in reality it may be greed, money, land ownership, etc., in the guise of religion.

Derailments happen all the time, due to many factors; just not all of them have bad consequences.
Nope, not like the frequency and the timing of all other huge mishaps. Too much to be coincidence.

Yup, it usually is. Which, ironically, brings us back to Greed.
