    Heresy -- Flashlights are useless

Agree completely, with the caveat that "inspecting <something> or looking for dropped <thing>" is a fair percentage of why I need light in the first place. My most commonly used lights are a 3AA Streamlight Dualie (two LEDs, one spot and one wide area, plus good clip and magnets) and a Surefire...

easiest food to grow in the summer.? in the southern usa?

We did find that hotter peppers tended to have less animal damage. For the last few years we have been growing a mix of Thai bird chilis and Habanero / Scotch Bonnet peppers... typically once or twice a year we find that an animal pulled a single pepper off the plant, took a single bite and left...

Any old school computer builders here?

The first computer I built was a Southwest Technical Products 6800, back when you had to build your own memory cards and the big new thing was 4KB on a single card. Used it partly for making crappy electronic music but one of our friends was into video special effects so we ended up putting...

    Automatic Emergency Lights

This is the best I have found so far - I have one in my house plus others I bought for friends & family. You can switch it to run 3 or 6 LEDs when power goes out - I find the 3 setting is enough to cover a typical house floor while 6 covers a larger ranch-style floor...

And the (temporarily) loony-left country to your immediate north :(

E bus fleet out of commission in cold

Yep... IMO an e-bike plus solar is workable and sustainable. Make it a three wheeler for cold climates. What I don't know is whether any of them have sufficient BMS to charge safely in cold weather, ie warm up the battery pack using power from the charger plug before letting charge current flow...

What is your, "give away to a stranger" light?

Great idea - I usually keep a few reflective vests in the car that I give away to invisible pedestrians (if I see them) but a light would also be helpful.

    Found my camping flashlight

Many years ago I bought a yellow Fenix LD25 with a neutral colour LED for outdoor use, particularly camping. It was one of the first flashlights I saw with multiple brightness levels, and I was able to use it most of the time on low. My brother-in-law really liked it (he had never really been...

    EBL batteries any good?

I only have experience with EBL NiMH cells - between C and D (mostly D) I guess I have a dozen or so of them. Bought most of them 7 or 8 years ago and still seem to be working well. I use them with an old AccuPower 4-station (plus 9v) charger. I would post a picture of them but they are all in...

D-cell Alkalines... no longer worth it? Obsolete vs. other batteries?

I picked up a bunch of EBL NiMH D cells several years ago (along with a few C's) and am still using them happily. I think one has died in that time but the rest are going strong. Still have a stock of alkaline D's that I'm keeping around... guess I'm hedging my bets in case there is a massive...

LEP Lights Made Outside of China

Nah... I just hate following threads where there are multiple intertwined discussions going on because the original question could be interpreted in multiple ways. But I did like your post, even if I snorted coffee on my desk when I read it :)

LEP Lights Made Outside of China

    A clarifying question - what about (for example) a made-in-China LEP module in a made-somewhere-else light ?

Operating a tail standing tailcap switch

I have been gradually replacing my smaller tail-standing lights with larger diameter ones, ie going from 18650 to 21700 size. Seems that I am too old to change from using my thumb and I find that going to a slightly larger tube (eg a Convoy S21) gets the "ears" out of the way. For the smaller...
