Most 18650 Headlamps Just do not Last Long Enough

After I typed this, I received in the mail, a Sofirn HS40 which is almost identical, except ramping brightness can be selected. Dialing in brightness finely, in between stepped outputs, is fabulous for getting sufficient lumens AND run time.

    Battery vampire, home made

Closest i could get to a comparison, is a Fenix LD02 on low but without the spill, to the vampire on high voltage...vampire still on the right in the pic.

Janky?.....i dunno, there's heat shrink between the switch and led whilst the battery leads are exposed, so....

    Battery vampire, home made

Forgive me; first time posting pics since being allowed to...shame to lose Photo Bucket posts from decades past... I believe the photo arrangement shows (Zebralight moon mode to the left in each pic), a "fresh" voltage of 4.2v at one foot from a wall. Second photo from three feet away. Third...

    Battery vampire, home made

Here it is, after a few minutes of tinkering. It's initially much brighter than Zebralight in moon mode, but after that initial bright, it goes for about a day at about the same brightness, then two more at less than Zebralight moon. But overall, that already "depleted" cell headed for the...

    Battery vampire, home made

Initially, the plan was a really clean install, but i got lazy...instead of some nice lever-lock or spring-connector (think speaker wire connection) for the loose lipo cells, I'll just direct solder it. Three car wheel weights give a bit of heft to the lightweight box.

    Battery vampire, home made

A donor light was gutted for its flex head, a plastic box from a fishing store, RC plane slide switch, and 18650 holder is the ingredient list. Starting with the light, the threaded portion of the body was cut, to "nut" the light to the lid.

    Battery vampire, home made

What does one do, when your personality type dictates that all objects be disassembled to properly dispose of E-waste and batteries? ...build a battery vampire! Here's a small sample of various lipo cells, and 18650s, in need of discharging for disposal.

I build too! (RC sailplanes though). I recently got a $24 Sofirn SP40 with a high CRI , beautiful beam LED. I'm a mechanic, and it lasts a long time. There's a large lumen gap between medium and high (at least for my typical ambient lighting), but if it's "dark enough" of lighting to use...

    Pelican 1920 penlight wanted.

Best darn penlight for automotive dealership, all day use! I have several backups for when they get discontinued...the only issue is that the rubber tail cap fails early. Not what you were asking, but said it anyhow. :)

    Ceiling Bounce

My home use/camping like must candle stand. As such, Zebralights in neutral/warm fill the bill nicely. The many many output levels ensures perfect ambient light.

    Wanted: CMG Infinity

Mulling it over, I will take your Gerber, nascar. It reminds my of my beloved Zebralight (RIP) in color, and I love my other Gerber products, so... How bout I snail mail you two $20 bills, and upon receipt you can ship out yer light? How's that for a counter-offer, haha. :)

    Wanted: CMG Infinity

Maybe nostalgic memories should simply be kept as such. The A-team absolutely rocked!!!....until i watched it later as an adult. With the campervan night light niche filled, i guess i don't really "need" the Infinity...kinda wasted all'y'all's time, sorry.

    Wanted: CMG Infinity

First, I may just want that, but... ...while digging for something unrelated, i found a light i bought 12 years ago. (Man, i wish photos were easy here). It has no markings, but google searching shows it to likely be a Celestron...large and clunky, 9v powered, slider switch for either red or...
