EDC, 2xAA, Throw-ish, Clicky, Good CRI, 3+ Modes, No Sharp Edges?

The Checklist Version... 1) How would you prefer to purchase the light? ____I would like to purchase the light in person from a brick and mortar store. I am located in ______________. __X__This will be mail-order or Online (location doesn't matter). - Sure, it would be nice to kick the...

EDC, 2xAA, Throw-ish, Clicky, Good CRI, 3+ Modes, No Sharp Edges?

Looking for a new EDC instead of my JetBeam RRT-O Raptor... I love the light, but hate the holes in my back pockets. The base of it, while making for a great stand base, has a square edge that is killing my pants. Needing to have less-common, CR123 batteries on hand is a bit of a drawback also...

1x AAA or AA Low Power with Clicky

Am I the only one with kids who, at 3 years old, the moment you turn your back, would point a flashlight at their eyes until all they can see is spots? And also don't think it's such a bright idea (pun completely intended) to give a kid a flashlight that they could potentially damage their...

    Niteye MSC20 Review (1x 18650 or 2x CR123/RCR123)

I like this light, but the pocket turn ons are holding me back from getting one. Curious to hear what kind of run times the lower settings (say, around 150lm) are getting too.

Harvested 18650s from laptop battery... now what?

There's the missing link I was looking for!! And well summed up. Tom, thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge (as I'm sure you have had to over and over :) ) and clearly explain the reasons for the testing approach. BTW, I blew up a car battery once... it was definitely an...

Harvested 18650s from laptop battery... now what?

From what I've been reading and what I know... LiIon rechargeables are a lot less dangerous than Lithium Primary cells... the major issue with exploding flashlights is from multiple cells, commonly, CR123 Lithium Primarys, particularly when the level of charge is not the same between cells...

Harvested 18650s from laptop battery... now what?

It sounds like all you can do with these batteries is watch them charge and discharge with a hobby charger. They're getting a lengthwise wrap of electrical tape and going in the battery recycling bin at work.

Harvested 18650s from laptop battery... now what?

I'm nerdy, but not that nerdy... nor am I a flashaholic; more of a gearhead type. I'm not looking to grade, sort, match, etc. these cells... want to charge them and use them in a flashlight... and more than likely in a sub-400 lumen flashlight. I use my lights for EDC work, walking dogs, etc...

Harvested 18650s from laptop battery... now what?

Charging a bad cell is the most dangerous... but it would have to be charged to run a discharge test to determine if the cell is bad... but, it was in a laptop cell, albeit with protections for things going wrong, getting charged and discharged... presumably discharging at a much lower rate than...

So, perhaps this discharge test should be done outside?

    JetBeam RRT-0 XML

I've been using it for a few days now and have to admit, it's growing on me... it's a lot more flood than I'm used to and at night, I pretty much blind myself when I put it on high. The brightness setting changing in my pocket doesn't seem to be an issue. Light seems to tailstand just fine now...

Harvested 18650s from laptop battery... now what?

Is doing discharge testing really necessary? It's not like you're calculating gearing and laps around the track... it's for a flashlight. Charge it, put it in light, use it... if the runtime is too low, cell not good. No?

Need a EDC light for back-pocket

JetBeam RRT-0 XML. The head is 1 inch diameter... I still wish it was a bit smaller around though.

My Own Jetbeam RRT-0 Kydex holster

Nice work! Forming plastic is fun, as long as you don't burn your fingers. I'm not sure how well it will work on Kydex, but for edge polishing, I usually use a quick pass with a propane torch set to a medium-small flame. It take a bit of practice to get it right, but the end result is a nice...

Need a EDC light for back-pocket

Diameter... I don't like anything over an inch in diameter for back pocket carry.
