Flashlight for emergency travel go bag

I'd look for a cheap 3x AA LED battery like you can find at Walmart/Harbor Freight. Nothing fancy but good enough to be useful while using standard batteries. Too many folks are overthinking the solution when a cheap one works fine in this case and yes, I have multiples of them around the house...

Master thread for disasters and generators.

If I was buying a new generator today, I'd look at a duel fuel (Gas/Propane) that has the connector for a propane tank due to many of the convience features propane offers. The main one is you don't have to refresh the fuel every six months like with Gas and Stabil, tanks don't rot and you can...

Will I turn into a Maglite fan once again?

I still find a MagSolotaire (1xAAA) to be useful as an EDC. Don't need to use it often but due to power grid instabilities, I find it makes more sense to have it if the lights go out in the store then an LED model. Was lucky enough to find a service kit for it and my MiniMags on Amazon as I...

    Is the (flashlight) "save" dead?

Aint that the truth. It surprised a number of people during a power outage, just how effective a MagLite Solotaire can be. No windows and an industrial building. Wasn't bright but it sure did a nice job of giving enough light to evacuate.

    G3 Geomagnetic Storm Incoming

Ours is a Grid-Tie System, meaning we depend on the grid during the night while feeding energy during the day. Works quite well though if the Carington even happens during the day, we may be screwed if no one can disconnect the main brieker before all the electronics are fried. May also fry the...

    G3 Geomagnetic Storm Incoming

Thanks HOF for the reminders. I've been looking into solar since the late 80's and we just had a 12kw array installed. Not hooked up yet and we don't have batteries, which is next on our list but we do have a grid tie system that's not connected so in that event, we will at least have lights and...

Longest runtime for budget single AA or AAA led light on low setting to be used in tornado shelter

My go to emergency lights are Chem Lights (Glow Sticks/Lumilights) in the green. I also get them in yellow with a 12 hour output as they're cheap, safe and only need replacing once a year if you get in 12 packs. Good enough for emergency use due to power outages or as you stated, a tornado...

How old is you EDC flashlight?

My oldest EDC is a Maglite Solataire (1x 3aa) that's almost old enough to drink as I've had it since 2002. Changed the battery recently and it still works well even though never one of the brightest out there even when new.

How do you keep your kitchen knife sharp?

I use an inexpensive Sharpening tool with a pair of Carbide and Ceramic rods. Works quite well though the only issue is short blades and yes it's one of those Harbor Freight finds.

is there any benefits to gas or keroscenne laterns?.

Still have our old Coleman Lantern and it still works. Funny thing is, I managed to pickup a pair of LED bulbs with Solar Panel and battery bank from Amazon for less then the cost of the Coleman and the battery bank is standard USB A plugs for Charging not only a phone but flashlights, tablet...

If Riding at night, get a set of Amazon item https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N7NGJWT/?tag=cpf0b6-20 reflective arm/leg bands. Another item is a Safety vest to help you be seen from the rear. Favorite maglite size

My personal fav is the Single 3a Mag Solataire light I've had for about 2 decades. Change the battery regularly and it's been perfectly useful in many situations that a larger light would get in the way.

    My EDC

The first and longest carried is a Maglite Solataire Incadescent. Although it's not as bright as an LED it's sufficient to find my way out of a building during a power loss when they have no outside windows and the emergency lighting isn't worth a dang. Wharehouses tend to have poor lighting in...
