Please explain how 18650 batteries are better?

Flashlights using 3xAAA batteries usually combine those three individual cells in series. To calculate batteries in series you add the voltages together by the number of cells (1.2vx3) but the capacity or mAh of the cells is not added but remains the same. (Note in a parallel configuration it...

    Streamlight Super Seige - opinions?

Great light! Very bright on high. Other modes with less output are good too. Great defuser not glarey. Big lithium battery which last long and keeps a charge when not used. Can be recharged from car or 12v battery with optional car charger. One complaint is that the brightness modes other than...

BAROU LAMPS - The LIGHT MACHINE - ELECTROPHORUS

Re: BAROU LAMPS - Thermoelectric Tech - the ELECTROPHORUS series Barou, love the art and love the functionality! GENIUS!!! The volt/watt meter is beautiful as is the whole lamp and the details such as fabric wrapped wires, thumb tighten fasteners, copper and brass connectors just makes me want...

    Fuel Lantern

The fuel based pressure/pump type lamps (petromax, coleman) are the brightest you will find but they are noisy and may not burn as clean as needed for indoor use. The brightest wick/mantel lanterns for indoors would be the Aladdin oil lamps. Look at Lehmans.com for examples.

    Portable ravpower solar panel questions

Capacitor? No! Power bank with pass through charging? YES! I've used a USB power bank that has pass through charging functionality to do exactly what you are asking. I plug the solar panel into the power bank's input to charge it and then plug the device I want uninterrupted power available...

    LED Lantern

Before buying another lantern even though there are many I'd recommend over the Ozark, I'd try putting on some Glad Press n seal wrap as a better defuser around the Ozarks own and see how it looks. I got that same tip from another cpf member years ago and it did wonders for a little very bright...

[Review] Streamlight Siege X USB - 1x18650 lantern with flashlight, red mode

That's too bad about the pwm on everything but the full brightness mode. I don't understand why it's even considered as a design choice when it's just as easy and not anymore expensive to implement a constant current method to dim the light output. I bought a 5 pack of those touch dimmer type...

    Test/review of Charger Xtar VC2S

Thanks HKJ for the reviews and for including in the latest charger reviews a section on how they perform with uncertain power conditions like exist when attached to a solar charger. Much appreciated!

    Test/review of Charger Xtar VC2S

I have a specific need in mind and this charger appears to have some functionality that would make it ideal for that use. I've been looking for that "perfect" USB charger that will work well with a USB solar panel. Most chargers fail to work with solar in that they don't handle the power...

led lantern, hot to make clear plastic, opaque/frosted

Some years ago in another lantern thread someone suggested using Glad Press'n Seal Wrap as a diffusing material for a glaring LED lantern. I had one of those lanterns and hated the glare so I tried it and was impressed with the results! The Press'n Seal material stuck well to the plastic (and...

    CLR30R lantern won't turn on?

A new CL30R comes with three 18650 batteries in it but they are separated from one of the lanterns contacts by a thin black cloverleaf-ish shaped piece of plastic (battery cover), which as you noted must be removed first. If you can look down the battery compartment and see the gold contacts at...

Are your old Eneloops still going strong? - a survey.

I just did a test on a pack of 10 year old 1st generation eneloop cells I had in storage. They were dated July 2007 on the cells. Straight out of the package I did a discharge test and they showed a capacity of just over 1100mAh @ a 400mA discharge, which means they held onto over 60% of...

Are your old Eneloops still going strong? - a survey.

I might be time to retire your old C.Crane charger. If it's the old quick charger like the one I have it was made for old NiCd and NiMh cells that needed a trickle charge to keep them topped off until you pulled them out of the charger. The eneloop and newer LSD type NiMh cells don't need a...

    Test/Review of Charger Xtar VC4

How many watts is the panel? The VC4 seems to do well at 5.25 to 5.5 volts so it's not too much of a stretch to get to 6v. The question is however, is your solar panel truly going no higher than 6v? You may need to consider a USB Voltage Regulator Module to help hold the voltage at USB specs...
