How bad would it be for the LED if I direct drive a single XR-E R2 off a single Li-Ion 18650. I'm sure it would be fine after the voltage settled but I'm a bit concerned about the initial hot off the charger running too high. It seemed ok for a few minutes but I didn't run it long. Quick Kennan driver question...
If I put the driver in my battery pack, can I charge the pack through the driver output or do I need to run separate leads to charger the battery? Thanks- HomebrewMTB

CatEye HL-EL700RC Triple Shot - review & mod.
Cateye uses 5.5 x 2.1 DC connectors. They have a twist lock molded connections so a bit nicer than standard but would still mate up with regular off the shelf connectors as well. L&M battery replacement
You should be able to change cells to whatever you want as long as the voltage is approx the same. The third wire is for the thermister in the battery. soldering rechargerable batterys
You can certainly do it for NiMH or NiCad but don't try with Li-Ion as you will melt the built in PTC fuse. For Li-Ion, get the tabbed cells or better yet, buy a complete pack with protection circuit built in.- HomebrewMTB
