    Clean up the contacts all around but after this amount of time, there is a chance the chip has lost its programming. Also, squirt some contact cleaner into the switch. It's possible you just got some corrosion in there. Wiggle the button around a bit while you do it.

    I can understand that. I wasn't thinking so much of stuff that's currently available for the masses but more specialist equipment. As you say "diesels that are made to haul", no reason they can't make electrics that are made to haul. But yes, that's a way off at the moment.

    Because huge amounts of instant torque in a 4WD is useless in a hay field? I'd have thought farm use would be perfect for electric. Loads of torque on something that rarely breaks down, cuts your fuel bills in half, doesn't need much maintenance, doesn't need to do many miles per day and when...
