Reproducing the Polaroid 'look' with LEDs...?

Late here, but I''l just post this quickly. Hope I fixed the pics. I've used Flickr this time. This thread is nothing at all to do with the other one wich is about finding a way of lighting a boat interior cheaply. Polaroid has been a hobby horse for a while - I used to take a lot of SX70...

Making my own film lights using LEDS?

Thanks for your comprehensive answers. Very useful. Good to hear from someone who has experience of the precise application. (By that I certainly don't mean to knock the other contributors! Though I wonder if they might wish to challenge anything you say). Color rendition is paramount, and if...

Making my own film lights using LEDS?

Thanks. That's all very useful. I know those 250W bulbs. Most lampshades eventually catch fire! I would not be surprised if on unionised sets they're banned - like the old pepper lights. Another useful lamp in photography (but they may well be discontinued now too!) are the bulbs used...

Reproducing the Polaroid 'look' with LEDs...?

The older folk among you will remember the unearthly 'look' of the sadly defunct polaroid SX70 film, but here's a reminder: More here: http://polafiction.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/03/ukiah.jpg http://polafiction.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/04/jacobanne.jpg Some of you may be tempted...

Making my own film lights using LEDS?

What a helpful bunch of guys! Fact is, I'm looking for something very cheap. Otherwise I could just hire in something. The big advantage of owning your own equipment is the flexibility it gives you. The prices of the gear I quoted above are kind of excessive. But they charge that because 1)...

Making my own film lights using LEDS?

You think 500 is too low? I was working from the notion that TV studios are about 1000 lux, and I don't expect to have to match or reproduce daylight with these things - that's when bigger lights would have to be used. With fast 500 ASA film at a 1.4 t-stop, you need at least 50 lux for good...

    TigerhawkT3 Video Lights 1 and 2 (TVL2 fully-variable CC; pics, beamshots, video)

Putting gel on always loses some light. Another way to warm up a shot is to white balance with a blue gel over the lens, then take the gel off. Saves on gels too.

Making my own film lights using LEDS?

PSU as you might get for a PC? Or is that a more general term? Or indeed something else...? "regulate themselves"? Oh dear. What does this mean? Hey - are any of these dimmable? Though I thought I could maybe arrange, say, 4 banks of 25 with on/off switches thus giving 4 levels of...

Making my own film lights using LEDS?

Thanks for the reply. Not sure what you mean by level of brightness. I'm aiming at 500 lux. Film needs a lot of light, and these units will have to have a layer of diffusion on or the reflections in the actors' eyes will look a bit weird - you'd see a grid of white dots! - so that would then...

Making my own film lights using LEDS?

Hi, My first post here... :nana: I went to a trade show recently and was impressed by a new range of film lighting that used LEDs. They were small, light, ran cool-ly, and had a large surface area which made the resultant light soft - a bit of a must-have when filming. There's a range here...
