    Post Your Newbie Questions Here!

I scrolled down a little bit and didn't see a response to your question. I wear my lights around my neck. I use a 33 inch length of paracord and thread it through the lanyard hole in the light and tie the cord with a Fisherman's Knot so I can wear it around my neck. This allows you to go...

Very Picky - looking for a compact EDC light

Ditto the Eagletac D25A with N219 with a 14500 battery charged on an XTAR SP1 charger. It's a compact light so with the 14500 you can only run it on high a short time before it gets hot. That's a trade off. You would have to use high power judiciously. The D25A goes down to one lumen so you...

    I need some advice

Re: I need a advice How about a Jetbeam ST Cycler? You can use it on your bike then take it off and use it when you get to where you are going. You can use it to find your bike in the dark. Then you can put it back on your bike and use to find your way home. Sounds like a great light.

I'm Confused RE: Amps vs Watts vs Volts

Assorted LEDs Cree XP-E: 3.5 W = lower power light Cree XP-G: 5 W = medium power light Cree XM-Ls: 10 W = higher power light Luminus SST-90: 30 W = higher power light I will make it a point to know which LED is in a light. No more...

    Annoyed by NIMH

I have a 2D LED Maglite that was using rechargeable Energizer 2,500 mAh batteries. My problem was that the batteries self discharged too fast and that 2,500 mAh was not enough capacity for my application. A couple of weeks ago I started using Immedion low self-discharge batteries with 9,500...

    Absolute brightest flashlight available

The FireFox IV has a 4,300K color temperature which is more suited for the outdoors. It is also brighter than the TK75's 2,900 lumens with its 6,000 lumens. Forget the Bat Signal and the Fenix, get the FireFox.

I'm Confused RE: Amps vs Watts vs Volts

I looked up the history of flashlights last night before I read your reply and was surprised to learn that early flashlights could only sustain a momentary "flash" of light due to their batteries and bulb filaments. So today's IMR people are just carrying on the tradition. The IMR light is...

I'm Confused RE: Amps vs Watts vs Volts

With your replies in mind, I just looked up Cree's Specs for their XM-L2. It is rated 3 Amps and 10 Watts max. So the Voltage is the variable (I think) due to LED lights being current regulated. Therefore, with that or any other emitter, all you have to do is consider the power source to get...

I'm Confused RE: Amps vs Watts vs Volts

I'm confused about how people describe their lights "horse power". I mean when you're talking about a car you say, "My car has 455 horse power and will eat your little Honda's lunch!" Well fine, I'm sure it would, but when people on CPF talk about their lights they usually talk about how many...

    Getting with the Program

Okay, so now I believe Mac's Customs Tri-EDC with the three G2s is the "one true EDC". Told you I would fall in love with G2s someday.

Incan Modded 4D Mag - Super Cheap!

You're a wildman. I loved the bit about reading it in Julia Child's affected voice. Very amusing. Also amusing to me, is your use of four 18650s. After all, why settle for enough when you can have more? This reminds me of my 5D Maglite project. It's monumental. Like a pyramid in the...

    Getting with the Program

I've been on CPF about three hours a week for three months now. I've learned that my rechargeable batteries self-discharge and have to be replaced unless I plan on using them regularly. Oops, I didn't know that. Interesting how that disclosure wasn't on the package when I bought the...

    Body-heat powered flashlight

Re: what do you guys think about this kid? A damp spongy sleeve could be used around the outside as an evaporator in hot dry climates. It wouldn't take much water. Maybe a solar panel to give it a boost. The possibilities are interesting. She deserves the recognition. It could help a lot...
