Designing Lights using 4 X D Nimh side by side?

Thanks for the all interesting comments! There are indeed many different ways to manufacture a side by side 4XD LED flashlight. My ideal design would be similar to the Zebralight Q50 (especially the battery compartment), but instead of 4AA, it would be scaled up to fit 4D, and with the triple...

Designing Lights using 4 X D Nimh side by side?

Not sure if this was discussed before: This concerns lights like Fenix TK60 and TK70, great flashlights using D Nimh cells. However, the D cells are stacked on top of each other, resulting in a long stick like flashlight. IMO, that's bulky and awkward to hold. Wondering if Fenix and other...

    Review: Dorcy's 618 Lumen ANSI rated MG-XML 6xAA

If I am undersanding this correctly from previous posts, bad regulation is due to the alkalines. IMO, for $95, Dorcy should have thrown in a set of cheap Nimh batteries and charger. Better still, lower the price to around $50 and just mention some thing like "Recommended to run on Rechargable...

When did you realise it's not all about the throw or millions of lumens

I came to realization when I look at how often my lights get used. Even though I have a 3200 lumen HID light (for max lumens) and a Maglite Aspherical Mod with a Cree X-RE R2 (for max throw with an LED), they never seem to get as many hours of use as my EDC light. If I recall, I estimate maybe...

    Techlite Lumen Master from Costco

Bought them a few months ago and all 3 of them in the pack still working well. The head and body where the Cree X-PE is is wired directly - the circuit to control the modes I believe is in the tail cap. Did you try swapping out tail caps or batteries holders? Very likely the problem is in the...

    New Zebralight S5310

Yeah, checked zebralight site and sure enough, they just updated their spreadsheet. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?authkey=CNqP6KIC&key=0Atedkp7Jhq8wdGY0UTU2TmVwOW9Fc0FfUDFVSHVNS1E&hl=en&authkey=CNqP6KIC#gid=0 The notes at the right side of the spreadsheet does say "Programmable L2...

    4XAA XML Light?

Thanks for all your input. I guess we are still quite limited in choices. All 3 of the 4XAA XML lights are quite different in size, build and price. The Olight S53/S65 Zenbaas suggested does look interesting. The S65 6XAA is closer to the output I am looking for, but the battery count is...

    4XAA XML Light?

Thanks TRE. Found it listed at BJ. You right - kind of pricy but sure is a thrower.

    4XAA XML Light?

Besides Jetbeam PA40 & the up coming Zebralight Q50, are there any other 4XAA Cree XML based lights?

GOOD experiences with Zebra, Let us hear your voices!

Have a SC50 as my only EDC for almost year and a half. Very dependable and UI and various modes is perfect for all situations. 2 other friends were sold when they saw my SC50. One bought a SC51 and the other has the SC30 & H31. All lights have no issues.

    N30 Battery replacement options **** UPDATED ****

Re: N30 Battery replacement options Northern Lights, hope your health is better now! As for the topic, maybe you'll need to start a new tread with that question about the ballast in your topic. Here are my thoughts anyways... You had previously used 12 nimh = 14.4 volts typical. However, a...

    N30 Battery replacement options **** UPDATED ****

Re: N30 Battery replacement options **** UPDATE **** I took apart the N30 Battery and found that out of the 11 Nimh sub-c cells, there was only 1 bad cell. The bad cell was the last one in series connected to the negative side. If I by-pass that cell - I was able to fire up HID. I even tried...

    N30 Battery replacement options **** UPDATED ****

Re: N30 Battery replacement options Thanks guys. I guess using a L35 battery is an option. However, I'll have to buy the battery PLUS the charger, and that would quickly add the cost up. I think I saw somewhere in this forum that the cut-off voltage of the N30 ballast is 10.8V - so that is...

    N30 HID lamp/ballast problem

My N30 behaved similar to yours. It did look like a bad switch just before it really died. Confirm I have bad batteries because it works fine with a 12 volt SLA battery. Looks like the original battery (tested good with a multi-meter) did not have enough current to strike up the HID. Currently...

**** UPDATE **** I took apart the N30 Battery and found that out of the 11 Nimh sub-c cells, there was only 1 bad cell. The bad cell was the last one in series connected to the negative side. If I by-pass that cell - I was able to fire up HID. I even tried by-passing 2 cells (using only 9...
