    In ceiling recessed lights?

WIth that lens, I would go with an A19, but you could also chance a BR30. I seriously doubt that a BR40 would work with that lens. Off topic: I replaced some expensive Lightolier non-ic remodelers that some dingbat had installed in our living room. If you pulled the trim down, you could see...

    SnapPower Guidelight Vs. Night Angel

I saw the Night Angel at Walmart and was intrigued, so I did some research when I got home. Based on my research, I decided not to buy one, as it seemed like a cheap facsimile of the Snappower Guide Light. Check out some of the online reviews (e.g. Amazon). They are not good. Disclaimer: I...

Can anyone help me create the perfect shadow for an art installation?

Soraa used to have some shadow examples on their web site (I can't find them). Here are some examples from one of their vendors: http://www.totaltracklighting.com/soraa-led-information.html

Pot/Ceiling Lights - LED vs Halogen

One of our rooms is lighted exclusively by MR16s. Personally, I don't think they are a good choice for downlights. I would go for something larger, like a BR30 or BR40.

Pot/Ceiling Lights - LED vs Halogen

Soraa if you are replacing a PAR bulb (only goes to 60°) Hyperikon if you are replacing a BR40 or BR30. Replacement fixtures: stay away. They tend to have lower lumens than the above mentioned bulbs. Also, if one breaks (and one will), an exact replacement may not be available in the future.

    What lighting best replicates sunlight?

I find that nearly all light sources (halogen, led, CFL) that are in the 3000k or lower range cause yellowing of white objects. It's just par for the game. Yes, under constant exposure to a light source chromatic adaptation occurs, but it is probably more accurate to say that partialadaptation...

    What lighting best replicates sunlight?

Yowza! I've been contemplating trying to make my own downlight using ultra-high CRI LEDs, but those prices are prohibitive. Slightly off topic: How feasible would it be to buy an off-the-shelf bulb or downlight (preferably one with no flicker and good dimming), and simple replace the...

    What lighting best replicates sunlight?

This would probably do the trick: http://www.cameracompany.com/bca-tungsten-photo-bulb-250-watt-4800k-daylight-blue/

    What lighting best replicates sunlight?

Either Solux or Soraa. Due to efficiency regulations, the only screw-in bulb Solux offers is a 3500k Par38 (I have one, and it looks excellent). Solux MR-16s go up to 4700k. Solux are halogen bulbs that use special filters to raise their color temperatures (which hurts their efficiency)...

    GE BrightStik led

Re: GE HD light "Reveal" Here's the spectrum of a Lumileds Crispwhite. My understanding is that its a normal blue-driven phosphor led with a violet led added into the package:

    GE BrightStik led

Re: GE HD light "Reveal" I’ve been playing with a Soraa par30 for the past week or so, and one of my initial thoughts was that GE should license Soraa’s technology and release it under the Reveal name. I have a neodymium glass bulb (same technology as Reveal incandescents) in my clothes...

light equal to 120W incan in ceiling can: heat issues w/ halogen, LED

This Br40 (below) from Home Depot (made by Lighting Science) uses 18-watts, and puts out 1,260 lumens. That's roughly the same amount of lumens as the IR halogen 70 watt BR40 bulbs made by Phillips and Sylvania. It's also roughly the same amount of lumens as a 120watt regular-old incandescent...

light equal to 120W incan in ceiling can: heat issues w/ halogen, LED

If I did my math correctly (which is always suspect), compared to a 120w BR40, a 16watt Hyperikon should put out 11.53 watts of waste heat, whereas the incandescent should put out 115 watts of waste heat.

What's your favorite high CRI bulbs for home use in 2016?

I broke down and bought a Soraa 3000k 60° Par30L. The light is simply stunning (I plan to write up a review). I actually prefer it to an incandescent. Unfortunately, a 60° par30L is no substitute for a BR30 or BR40: the beam spread, although wide, is still too narrow. Right now I'm trying to...

Does PWM follow the AC voltage or is it timed within each bulb?

Led lights that you screw in, at minimum, have a rectifier that turns the AC to DC. No pulse width modulation is involved. At minimum, it a single diode that chops off the negative part of the wave form (half-wave rectifier): Even better is a full-wave rectifier (four diodes), but that will...
