Flashlights in TV shows and movies (Part 4)

This may have been mentioned before; but its a very unusual LED 'Stake' / Tent peg light (made from aluminium or titanium?) - operated by 'shaking' it on/off. Unusual LED emitter design as well - made of 4 columns of 6 LEDs (in a rectangualar configuration). from a Stargate Atlantis episode...

    N-Light B3 Quick Review

I forgot to mention, two more things: -At HIGH the head gets noticeably warm in about 20 seconds - which is I assume the internal brass heatsink working, its a small light with limited thermal mass... -The body is very likely water tight (if not sealed), however the switch at the end could...

    N-Light B3 Quick Review

I've been EDC'ing the "Cool" white N-Light B3 (Stainless Steel) AAA light for a while now. It's the best EDC contender I've seen - compact, relatively lightweight, hardy and well designed. Output is probably ~10 lm on LOW - and High its ~70 lm (using my Mk.1 un-tuned eyeballs). There is PWM...

Lightning flash nearby activated 3 AAA LED light

Yes, a static charge can accumulate on a sensitive FET transistor (like the 'switch') for electronically controlled lights. Same effect as the metal 'touch' switches, except it was directly from super-charged air (Lightning at near point-blank range ~100m say).

Suggestions for Pocketable EDC, Multi-mode, Tailcap Clicky

    Well I've ordered a N-Light B3. I'll do a mini-review when I get it.

Suggestions for Pocketable EDC, Multi-mode, Tailcap Clicky

My work-horse AAA EDC needs replacement. Must run efficiently on AAA NiMH (Sanyo Enerloop), Reverse/Forward switch on the TAILCAP, NO EXCEPTIONS Modes, 2 or more (Low / High) Decent mount-point or hook/eye for a chain or lobster-claw keyring attachment. Also - ideally no power drain on...

Flashlight for running at night under $25?

You know; 150+ LM for 25$ should be possible. I'd doubt a headlamp would be cheap enough. Try something like this: http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/generic-diver-light-cree-q3-180lumen-led-flashlight-4aa-p-4357 (Yes, yes, generic clone of ... something... quality ~UNKNOWN~ Whaddya...

    Malfunctioning Rexlight 2.0

LEDs, are indestructible. The same cannot be said for all the other components however! I've got a Version 2.0 classic Rexlight, that won't stay on. Sometimes it will start - and flicker until it stays off. The switch is good (continuity 0.7 Ohms, give or take) - the aluminium body does...

Why no micro switched tail clicky AAAs?

Why not a Reed switch in the head ? (a magnetically operated switch) Instead of a 'Tail' clicky the actual head of the light is pressed in to activate it, or even a twist switch at the tail end... Perhaps some kind of pneumatic pressure switch ? The 'main' power switch does not even have to...

Tell Me Your Best Kept Secret in Pocketable lights?

'Custom' - A 1st generation SMJ-Solitare retrofit module in a CHEAP Dorcy forward-clicky. (With "Adjustable" focus - hah!) Had it for YEARS, (EDC - literally always in a pocket). Never failed, not once. (Even my Rexlight has gotten a case of aluminum rot...) The only things that seem...

What's the big deal about the piston lights?

Terrible lack of design Most switches should never have any major current passed through them. Arcing can and indeed happens... The Ideal switch would be a Power FET transistor with a Reed switch controlled externally with a small magnet. Slide a switch forward and the magnetic field will...

    LED Houselights

THEY LIVE (err exist) $15, is probably too low a figure. However around $20 can get you a light good enough to use for a reading lamp or desk light. Also avoid ANYTHING 5mm LED. Junk Junk and MORE JUNK! Power Emitters are the ONLY way to go. Lights like...

    IR /RF Remote Dimmable CFL

Has anyone seen any Remote Control (Infrared or Radio Frequency) Dimmable Compact Fluorescent bulbs? http://www.cyberlighthk.com/annular.htm All I can find are remote dimmable ballasts, which arn't useful without a fixture. Ideally a Twist style CFL, to be used in standard bases -- circlines...

    How hot is too hot?

Indeed old P3 and AMD Athlon heatsinks are cheap, plentiful and large enough that even without a fan they have enough surface area to work as a passive heatsink. As these are CPU heatsinks and designed to work with fans, they don't radiate quite as well without one. Also Anodized black, is a...
