    Hound Dog XPL Lego

    The WC comes from Malkoff with a 10-degree diffusion lens over the TIR lens, which turns a beam that is VERY similar to the HD into a 5k cd flood beam. The 5-degree diffusion lens splits the difference, making it into a smooth 20k cd beam without rings or artifacts.

    Hound Dog XPL Lego

    I would use the 18650 Hound Dog on a single Li-ion cell, just bear in mind that you're stuck with the proprietary tailcap on the Malkoff 21700 body. My favorite by far remains the Wildcat 18650 with a 5-degree diffusion lens installed on the MD2 body and LF tailcap;

    M91B vs. Bodyguard v2

    The MDC XP-L head on an 18650 LF body is my new EDC "everything else" light. I really like the beam pattern and overall performance of this head for a general use EDC light.

    M91B vs. Bodyguard v2

    I don't have any beam shot comparisons, but I have taken the following measurements; M91B on two Li-ion cells - approx. 880 lumens / 7,500 cd (input voltage 5.5 - 12v) BGV2 on one Li-ion cell - approx. 1,120 lumens / 12,800 cd (input voltage 3.4 - 6v) E2 Super on one Li-ion cell - approx. 850...

    M91B vs. Bodyguard v2

    Just as another point of comparison, the only light in the current Malkoff lineup that exceeds the BGV2 in lumen output is the Hound Dog Super. BGV2 on a LF E2 18650 body;

    M91B vs. Bodyguard v2

    I've have used both for years. Side by side, on high for the first eight seconds, the BGV2 blows the M91B away - it's really no contest. When the BGV2 steps down to 250 lumens, the beam remains extremely useful and current draw drops from 2.4 amps to 0.57 amps, giving it long run time. Keeping...

    The Malkoff Front Porch

    Protected cells are often too long to fit the battery compartment. For the MDx series try using the Malkoff extender kit or just switch to IMR flat top cells.

    Weapon light discussion, (loosely) related topics welcome

    Late to the party... I am a fan of WMLs on long guns, but as a civilian for EDC I prefer a dedicated handheld "fight light" reserved for the same use as a pistol-mounted WML. This light is carried on the belt in a horizontal carrier but can also be dropped in a pocket; This Lego uses a...

    We need to talk about Olight

    You started a thread about why you think "the olight hate may be a little overdone." I responded with a critique of one of their products and the way it's promoted. Sorry that you think my later response was off-topic, but it's exactly that kind of information that manufacturers like Olight...

    Thanks for taking the time to comment. Just curious, are you a CPF forum moderator or site administrator?

    We need to talk about Olight

    Yes, especially true for a civilian where (broadly speaking) it's only legal to draw a weapon if the use of deadly force is justified. Otherwise it could result in felony brandishing charges. For the civilian a pistol WML is a "nice to have" but a properly configured "tactical" handheld is...
