    Specialized Flux Expert/Elite

Sought after? Probably not. Needed? Yes. It's still only relatively recently that lights that are bright enough to be a nuisance have become easily affordable, and I think that many cyclists don't realise how annoying LED lights can be. Also, I think that most people don't realise how much...

    Specialized Flux Expert/Elite

Actually, I think that review just happens to be on an MTB site. It was included in Specialized's 2015 launch which included both road and MTB stuff and the marketing blurb that I quoted above suggests that they were thinking of road use. Yeah, and assuming the beam is up to scratch then I...

    Specialized Flux Expert/Elite

Does anyone know anything about the new lights from Specialized? On the face of it, they look pretty interesting: True vehicle lighting for your bicycle. The super-wide and super-bright beam pattern puts ligt where you need it to see and be seen, day or night. * Powerful down-firing Cree LED w/...

    Using 2 18650 batteries in place of a 4 cell pack ?

The only wires connected to the cells are two of the white wires. There is another pair of white wires going to the charge socket (the dongle at the bottom of the picture) and then three wires (red, blue and clear) going to the LED and switch. I can't see how the cells can be anything but...

    Philips LED bike light

5V @ 500mA is 2.5W. Phillips Saferide LEDs are 0.7A each at about 3.2V i.e. about 4.5W, and that's before losses in the driver, so the short answer is that the USB port isn't going to work. I'm afraid I don't have any smart ideas for using the 36V supply, as I think that's beyond the input...

    Using 2 18650 batteries in place of a 4 cell pack ?

I can see a wire marked "+" going to one end of the pack (to what looks very much like a single plate joining the two terminals) and a single wire marked "-" going to the other end. There are no other wires going to the batteries. I can't see how that could operate in series.

    Using 2 18650 batteries in place of a 4 cell pack ?

Did you look at the photos? The 2 cell pack looks a lot like it's wired in parallel, as the OP said.

    Using 2 18650 batteries in place of a 4 cell pack ?

The short answer is that it's not going to work. Different lights need different voltages, depending on how the LEDs are driven. For example, a light using a constant current buck driver typically requires an input voltage that is at least 1V or so more than the output voltage, but can usually...

    Batteries in Bicycle Handlebars?

I thought about it, but only got as far as determining that 18650s don't fit.

Quick notes on Philips SafeRide vs. B&M IQ CYO-RT

You also need to change the bit on the bottom of the light to an H-27 spacer: https://www.shopcateye.com/product/h-27-spacer It's the bottom left item in this photo:

    Philips LED bike light

Not the first report I've heard of the new mount being rubbish, and I wasn't very impressed with the old one. I swapped mine for a cateye mount, which is much neater and makes it easy to take the light on and off with just one hand. The "spacer" (the bit that screws to the light) is quite hard...

    New Philps light

Thanks, Herbert. It's not a real flightdeck bracket - it's just the blanking plate that comes as standard with a minature switch bodged into it so that it sits directly behind the nipple on the hood. I did look at getting hold of a proper flightdeck button, but they were silly money. I'm glad...

    New Philps light

Yeah - the XM-L is a converted Lumicycle halogen with a b2flex driver. It's a spot optic, but it's still pretty floody, but I think that's always going to be the case with an XM-L and this type of optic. Some photos below - the remote switch is bodged into where a Flightdeck button would go on...

    New Philps light

Thanks for taking the time to post a review. Sounds like you've got pretty much the exactly the same requirements as me, and currently pretty much the same solution. I've got a Saferide running at 1A, and a triple XML running at 1.5A for full beam, with a switch integrated into my brake lever...

    Newbie Modder - Lumicycle LED4

I've done quite a bit of modding on old Lumicycle halogens, and I've got an LED3 which I've got vague plans to upgrade at some point. You can get optics and LED boards from Cutter (www.cutter.com.au). They should be pretty much a drop in replacement, but the brightness increases will be modest...
