    New Panasonic extra-smart charger

Not sure what you mean by "Silver Medal" but if you mean Vancouver, I think yes...you should go for the GOLD!!!

    Battery blog

The author of the blog looks to be very well informed on all the popular battery formulations. He may already be a CandlePower member, if not, we now know where to find him. Maybe he can explain the intricacies of how Ni-Mh batteries terminate. Thanks for the link...it's a facinating read.

    New Panasonic extra-smart charger

Just to clarify matters regarding the manufacturers code: The charger is referred to as the BQ-CC01 while the bundled package that includes the charger and four batteries is referred to as the BQ-C01

    New Panasonic extra-smart charger

This post alludes to the the point that more must be better when it comes down to charging current. As is the case with many things purchased out of pocket money, better thought out designs attempt to give you choice by making smart tradeoffs. Many battery powered products typically run off of...

    New Panasonic extra-smart charger

In general, I like the slower and gentler (i.e. lower) charge currents that have the batteries charge up in about 4 hours (or 0.25C). The problem is that most (not all) smart chargers have difficulty terminating at this current level. It remains to be seen whether this charger can terminate...

    Newer Energizer Rechargables?

The CHCC charger actually works out better for LSD cells due to the charge efficiency being about 66% (at best). This means that you need to put in about 1.5x the charge...in the case of 2000 mAh cells, this amounts to about 3000 mAh. In a sense, timed chargers are a known evil compared to...

    New Panasonic extra-smart charger

Thanks for the feedback. I think that with the problems with smart chargers terminating on a full charger, introducing a feature were that batteries are nearly full would be useful for batteries like the Energizer 2500 and for those who rather top up for more cycles. Above is a condensed...

    Panasonic BQ-390

It seems to be well specified. Another newer charger that has generated some interest in another post is the BQ-C01 or BQ-CC01

    NOS Sanyo 2500...mystery

Yes...I've edited the original post to make this clearer Your experience seems similar to mine but with older cells. Time has been flying by and my dates with the Sanyo are probably not the most accurate. So I'll go by your dates. Still, 4 years is enough time to fully discharge batteries to 0...

    NOS Sanyo 2500...mystery

For those not familiar with the term, NOS refers to "New Old Stock". (Typically, equipment that requires routine replacement of perishable parts (example:old tube based amplifiers) that are no longer manufactured will seek out NOS parts at a premium.) Back in the day, say about 2001, when only...

    Charging Rate Question

The 0.5C rates is only for smart chargers using negative delta-V to stop the charge. If you want about 500 charges, you should charge up your batteries less fully and stop the charge around 1.45V. The problem is that there are not many chargers around that do this automatically.

    Rechargeable AA battery shoot out

Re: Ultimate AA battery shoot out As I said...you do not need a moderator to rename your thread. Go to "Advanced Menu". He has already done item #2 and #4 but you can easily find those threads yourself. There are various others doing #3, it would be a waste of buying batteries and time to do...

    Rechargeable AA battery shoot out

Re: Ultimate AA battery shoot out You can rename yourself...maybe call it "My Way" I find that SilverFox's "Shootout" to be the most useful and if you want to use the word ultimate, I would say his is closer to the ultimate in terms of thoroughness. What do you find lacking in his tests that...

    USB powered charger for DuraCell?!?!?

The first link shows that the charger can actually communicate with a computer and show the state of the charge...this might be the future of "smart chargers" providing you don't mind footin g the tab for powering the laptop :)

Duracell Power Gauge CEF21 mod for improved charging of AAA cells

Re: Duracell CEF21 disassembled and modified for improved charging of AAA Nice summary. I thought I put a couple of before and after images showing the change to the charge profile with an increase charge current to show the benefit. For those unfamiliar with smart chargers, they depend upon...
