How old is too old of a battery?

    That's how I understood them.

How old is too old of a battery?

Like I said, they'll continue working beyond 5 years. My project requires near perfect reliability, so I retire mine before they start to suffer performance issues.

    Close call?

I'd just like to reiterate, that I don't give my kids the flashlight to play with. It had apparently found its way out of my pocket and someone picked it up. As for the CR123 cells by Titanium Innovations, I've never had a problem with them before, after years of use. I'm much more afraid of...

How old is too old of a battery?

The word I got from several engineers was 5 years on NiMH. They'll continue working past that, but for maximum reliability, 5 years is my cutoff for my project.

Best place for bulk SD card purchase?

Thanks for the suggestions. I checked out Mouser, but they wanted a lot more per unit than the price I ended up getting straight from Sandisk. Sandisk wouldn't extend us a volume discount on 100 cards, but the price was at least the same as Amazon. Hopefully I can trust Sandisk to provide...

Best place for bulk SD card purchase?

I need like 100 to 125 32GB full size SD cards. I don't really need anything faster than a class 4, and in fact, a 4 might be preferable to a 10 if it consumes less power. I'm leaning towards Sandisk cards, but I hear so many horror stories about counterfeit cards, I'm nervous to buy them...

Battery Management Systems For Streamlight Stingers & Kenwood NX-300K4 Batteries

Re: Battery Management Systems For Streamlight Stingers & Kenwood NX-300K4 Batteries We have about 600 expensive rechargeable batteries on our project ($7200 replacement cost). The previous manager didn't take a strong approach to managing them, so when I came on, we had over 300 dead...

    Close call?

I think that was user error. Any flashlight might do something unexpected if you jam the batteries in backwards and twist it on.

    Close call?

I'm about 90% sure it was in backwards, but to be fair, I yanked it out in a hurry and tossed it fast (I was hoping it wouldn't decide to vent in my hands). I had a visual impression that it came out tail first, but I didn't sit there and examine it. The wrap was fine when I later examined the...

    Close call?

Ok, here's my little story. I have a Quark Mini 123 flashlight that runs on one Titanium Innovation CR123 battery. I've had this awesome little flashlight for maybe 10 years now and I freaking love it. I carry it with me every day. The other day, I found my flashlight on a kitchen counter...

Rechargeable D-cell batteries - could use some advice please

What's ESR? I'm in the process of measuring V, int. resistance, charge cap, and discharge cap on all of them. I'm setting up a database to track all of them. I have no way of knowing for sure how old the batteries used in earlier phases of the study are, but I suspect they're mostly original...

Rechargeable D-cell batteries - could use some advice please

The old POWEREX 11,000 mAh red tops were the ones I experienced failures on. The newer low-discharge POWEREX 10,000 mAh black batteries seem to be much better so far, but time will tell. What's the maximum life span on NiMH batteries like these? 5 years? 10?

Rechargeable D-cell batteries - could use some advice please

I have put some of the batteries that were reading 0.00 V and 0.00 mOhms onto the Dragon Charger and attempted to recover them. Two out of the 40 I tried this with started charging. The rest gave me a 'ERR' message. But let's face it, I'm never going to trust those batteries again, even if I...

Rechargeable D-cell batteries - could use some advice please

I think I agree. I was waiting to check the bad cells out on my new XTAR Dragon VP4+ charger. So, these particular NiMH D cells were not taking a charge on the other charger. I tested them with the leads on the Dragon VP4+ charger and it was reporting 0.00 for voltage and resistance...

Rechargeable D-cell batteries - could use some advice please

(I'm not sure if my previous comment is being moderated or was lost. I'll summarize my last post) I charged all 450 or 500 batteries on the Maha PowerEx MH-C808M Charger. About 100 were not recognized by the charger and did not charge. The other tester suggested they were completely flat...
