    Knife Chatter. Show and Tell!

Out of the box, into the pocket. No safe queens.

What light(s) is in your pocket today?

Agreed. Sometimes, more light is the opposite of what you want! At nose-touching distances, my 250 Lumens of Pro-Tac is way too much! Right tool for the job, again. The Microstream was one I looked at. Streamlights are just about Goldilocks in every way, but I confess, I hate their pocket...

    Knife Chatter. Show and Tell!

Bonus flashlight content. Guess where else I posted this picture? Or, don't. It's the internet, I ain't gonna give out orders.

What light(s) is in your pocket today?

Bonus knife content (so I can double-post the picture!) Yeah, I know. Coast doesn't get a lot of love, but there's something to be said for a light that's just there for utility purposes. It's the right size, simple UI, good color, good pocket clip, and (shrugs), I had a gift card.....

    Impulse Buy Lights

I kinda want a new light, even though my "needs" are well-covered. I'm here to be enabled, not talked out of it. Show me the lights you bought because of lapses in budgetary discipline. The more pictures, the better.

    Dehydration thread

Dehydration is something I've struggled with for decades, although it was only in my late thirties that I learned how to get ahead of it. My metabolism is very efficient at eliminating water, and seems to be on a quest to see how little of the stuff a human being can survive on. We have...

    "Practical" Lumens?

Baby steps, 3_gun. Baby steps. It's true that Lumens are part of a more comprehensive picture that includes things like battery type and user interface. Lumens are the thing that a lot of flashlight companies like to put on the front page, so it's a useful starting point.

    "Practical" Lumens?

You see it all the time. Flashlights bragging about their 10,000 Lumen output. Then you read a little further, and find that output lasts thirty seconds, and then steps down to 800 Lumens. Or something like that. My question is, are there manufacturers out there that put a "practical" runtime...

    Flood or Throw....

Idleprocess, I agree with your thinking about keychain lights being a mostly general-purpose item. This 120lm Fenix of yours sounds like just the ticket. Can you tell me some names and numbers to look for? Edit: I think I found it. Fenix LD02 V2.0, yeah?

    Flood or Throw....

"Defeating inverse-squared through brute-force" is a phrase I will use many times, in the future. I was wondering about back scatter myself, especially with smaller lights that don't have the output to overcome inverse-squared in edge-cases, but I don't think it would be possible to come up...

    Clip on light for coat

Streamlight Vantage 180. Pocket clip, right-angle head, waterproof to 1 meter, impact-resistant at a 1 meter drop. Just a bit more hardcore than you really need.

    Flood or Throw....

....from your keychain light. I know, it's the eternal question with any light. So, for purposes of making it more interesting: can you come up with some numbers? How far in feet/meters/bananas? How wide of a beam do you want, if you want flood? How far should it go if you're more of a...

we often encounter scenes that require the use of a flashlight

3,000 Lumens is the practical output, with a 75 minute runtime. The Turbo and High modes last 45 seconds, and 1 minute, respectively. I have a philosophical conflict with these lights that advertise a Super Turbo Searchlight mode that only lasts a few minutes. Anything less than... five...

Do you make a name for your flashlight just as what you did to your pet?

I've thought about names for my Coast Polysteel 1000R, but mentally I'm 12, and it just goes terribly wrong.
