    Mechanic's headlamp? High-clearance, low shadow...

Specifically, the NightBuddy seems like a downgrade, but if I could split the difference... I guess I'll search out reviews. Maybe I could use it just for the really tight stuff on occasion...

    Mechanic's headlamp? High-clearance, low shadow...

I work on cars a lot, and the lighting in my garage is non-existent. It mostly doesn't matter, thanks to my Zebralight H600Fc Mk IV. It's floody, it's bright, and it uses 18650 batteries. It's fantastic. I've had it for years, and I'm just checking in to see if there might be something better...

    Highest sustained-brightness floody 18650 headlamp...?

The bummer with those LED arrays is that they come with their own battery packs. I have a stack of 18650s and a charger, so I'm hoping to keep those in the mix.

    Highest sustained-brightness floody 18650 headlamp...?

Oo, very interesting. Those multi-lights might work well! I think you're right about y options...Just get something super bright and just use a lower setting...

    Highest sustained-brightness floody 18650 headlamp...?

I have a floody 4000K Zebralight H600Fc Mk IV XHP50.2 for working on cars and it's fantastic. My complaint is that max brightness only lasts a few minutes before it surreptitiously ramps down (presumably due to heat). There is still plenty of battery life after that, but it's just...not as...

    Wasp-killing zap racket hot rod

Aha, looks like the yellow thing is just some transistor and the black box is a voltage multiplier...This video is handy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGR2G4qHm6g&t=3m This circuit is so simple, and I'm already in over my head with regard to juicing this thing up...

    Wasp-killing zap racket hot rod

A few background points: 1) The old school zap rackets with 1-3 mesh screens tend to be garbage. They're weak and fragile. 2) The Jolt and Enforcer designs (sold under several names) with thick horizontal bars are life-changing and durable. I'm starting with the second lot. I may already be...

    Wasp-killing zap racket hot rod

I have one of these mosquito-killing zap rackets (they're life-changing—everyone should own a few): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000MU2MJA/?tag=cpf0b6-20 Today, while trying to do some work around the yard, I was getting murdered by black flies. I wound up zapping an average of several...

    Smallest and brightest rechargeable torch

Oh wow, that Peak Eiger looks like just the ticket. Didn't even know they existed! Thanks, folks.

    Smallest and brightest rechargeable torch

It seems search has been disabled after that outage, so I figured I'd ask. My Arc AAA has disappeared, and it seems they've been discontinued. Loved that damn thing. I found one on eBay, but it's $200, and perhaps they're old tech...It lived for years on my keychain in my pocket, so both length...

Super-floody AA/AAA headlamp for mechanic work

Interesting! I'm curious to see how these evolve. I actually wound up buying the 18650 version of the H502 (H603)...I will straight up never go back to AA. It's well worth the hassle and cost of having a dedicated charger and set of high-power batteries.

Super-floody AA/AAA headlamp for mechanic work

This thing has been great. I rarely need to go for a hanging/hand-held light anymore. I use it on the second-highest brightness and the battery usually lasts about an hour, which isn't great, but easy enough to swap in another battery. I do wish it was brighter, too, but again, I don't regret...

Super-floody AA/AAA headlamp for mechanic work

Yeah, I think that's about it. I ended up going with the H502 cool white. I figure a little bit more brightness will be more valuable in this use case than better color rendering.

Super-floody AA/AAA headlamp for mechanic work

Here's a very clever setup that attaches some magnets to the clip of a small torch: https://www.edcforums.com/threads/best-light-for-mechanic.134946/ Neat idea, and I may use it—my hand-held light is sometimes too big and hard to aim in tight spots, despite its numerous hooks and magnets...
