Amateur showdown of AA sized batteries.

I picked up some X2 Power from batteriesplus. They are about .5mm thinner than the duracells. Some rechargable batteries are too fat to be used in some lights. Before that I used Panasonic batteries which are also thinner but are no longer made. My feeling is the X2 power is a premium battery...

Hydrogen car debacle. Toyota is in trouble.

Cummings is making engines that will run on diesel or hydrogen. If you heat up any kind of organic material and don't allow oxygen into it you get producer gas. This is hydrogen carbon monoxide and zillions of other compounds. This has always been known the problem is hydrogen makes steel...

    18650 sodium-ion battery

They are showing up now. Everyone thinks they will made out of salt. But it turns out we have massive supplies of sodium carbonate. Liberating salt leads to the problem of what to do with all the chlorine. Right now they are a bit heavier that LiPo. This is not a problem on automobiles. When...

CAUTION !! Misleading budget battery and lumen claims

I think the main problem with lumens is a translation error. The old style 12 volt spotlights on police cars were 100 watts and 300000 candle power. Candlepower is not used much any more. I came across a 26650 Chinese made light that advertized 40000 lumens. 40000 candlepower is quite reasonable...

    SILICON CARBINE

Yes you read that right. There was a small mention by GE in the December January Aviation Weak and Space Technology. They are making high temperature integrated circuits out of the stuff. Of course I want some. That's all I know.

    Brightest Spotlight?

What you want is a varmit light. Most of these are designed to be mounted on guns. Be careful a lot of them come with a green LED. I use this which is rated at 1200 feet. https://www.lowes.com/pd/CRAFTSMAN-500-Lumen-LED-Rechargeable-Spotlight-Flashlight-Battery-Included/1000495133

Federal government cracking down on batteries!

I have tried to charge watch batteries. Some of them will charge to a certain extent. Others will pop like pellet gun. Just don't get greedy. Charge them for about a minute and you will have enough charge to tell if your battery is dead or your watch.

Members' experience by brand with leaking alkaline cells.

Every NiCd battery I have seen in the past 10 years has leaked.

    Purple street light tear down.

The LED shown had delaminated but was still attached. It popped off during transport. Here is what I think is happening. The board gets a bit of salt water in it. This causes a short, electroplating and chemical reactions. There is green between most of the pairs. The copper is exposed there and...

    Purple street light tear down.

The light was full of water. To be fair it has been through hurricanes. There is corrosion at the base of the LEDs and the phosphor is flaking off. Since every purple light I have seen is in Florida I'm going to assume it is the salt that is causing the phosphor to fail early. It should be...

    Photographing Strobes

I came across a red light camera damaged by hurricane Ian. It was strobing at around 5 times per second for around 20 seconds though I am sure some flashes were so close together I counted than as 1. I managed to get a 12 second video before my battery went dead. It shows 42 flashes and the...

Using magnetic crystal patterns for LED spacing.

You have a bunch of LED's and you want to know how to space them to make them as round as possible. The following album shows steel balls suspended in a magnetic field confined in a round container. The balls repel each other to form the best spacing. https://flic.kr/s/aHsmWeuJGV

    New 4 D Cell Maglite ML 300

That light is no longer available on Maglite's web site. I have considered buying the 6 D cell light which is available but can't fit it on my bicycle. https://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200724551_200724551

    Rubber Shoes

I picked up a set of new old stock Shoes For Crews in a Goodwill. These are made of rubber and nothing but rubber cast as a single unit. I wore these for a year and managed to wear off all the tread. Rubber has a very low porosity so you can wash them out and they will be dry in a minute. Since...

    New From Maglite

INTEC ILIF 3006526 ESR1EE8402 6.4 V 3.0 AH With 2cells it should work in pure buck mode. The old rechareable had 5 NiCd cells which also worked in pure buck mode but that never gave the performance I would have expected and I didn't get one. I much prefer Lithium iron phosphate they are safer.
