What's your favorite UI design on flashlights?

I really do love my Noctigon KR4 with Anduril, but will take it into work next time one of my team comes up with a very good but overly complicated solution to a simple problem. Zebralight is pretty much ideal for me.

Helmet light with front AND rear LED

Can you a driver see the back of the convoy from the rear while you're riding? Cateye have a duplex range that you might like. 10lm rear. Which is a good amount for a rear. https://www.cateye.com/intl/products/headlights/HL-EL462RC-H/...

Hub dynamo producing less power overtime?

The light won't necessarily behave the same with a dyno vs wall wart power source. I'd still be inclined to blame the light rather than the hub.

REVIEW: Specialized Flux Expert Bicycle Headlight - Photo Intensive

If there's someone that rebuilds powertools locally they might be able to help. If you're somewhat handy search for 18650 tagged cells, you probably don't use a spot welder to rebiuld. Otherwise it should run off an external USB battery pack.

    Li Ion Battery tester

4 cell KD batteries. http://kaidomain.com/battery-packs Have various chargers from gloworm. Annoyingly they removed the indicator LED from their chargers now so if I use their charger on a regular battery I have no indication of if it's really charged or not. Have ordered the above and one...

Help with issues for LED strip

Yep. NiMH are rated at 1.2V and give a fairly consistent voltage (1.3V-1.1V) over their discharge curve. Alkalines start at 1.5 and quickly drop to lower than the NiMH under significant load. Perhaps not as bad as the eneloop marketing but you get the idea...

Help with issues for LED strip

Are those no name alkaline AA batteries? Looks like that needs a bit of power, alkaline batteries don't do particularly well in high drain devices. Try some NiMH (I'm a fan of eneloops), you'll likely double the runtime and have more consistent light output.

    Knock off bike lights

For kids on tracks get these 300lm swift lights from Nightrider (a reputable brand). Bright enough to ride with and not too annoying to others on the trails. Mounts easily to the bars with no hassles of what to do with the USB battery packs. https://www.niterider.com/products/6786-swift-300

    Li Ion Battery tester

I have a few gloworm lights that don't have a battery indicator on the light head, relying on their on battery led indicator. I tend to run aftermarket batteries though so have no way of telling what my charge level is. I want something that I can plug into the battery and get a charge level...

    Fixing Solar Storm X2

If it worked well when put away I's suspect corrosion. Possibly an easy fix once you get it apart.

looking for a daytime rear seatpost light...

I don't have the Hypershot but have a 150 and 200 Hotshot. I think there are some difference between modes which might be more significant than the lumen differences. They are all very very bright so you can't really go wrong.

    LEDs wearing out?

They gradually get dimmer. The term often used is "lumen maintenance". So the LEDs in a light bulb might be expected to be at least 80% as bright (maintain 80% of their lumens) after 50,000 hours (by which time some of the other electronics in the bulb may have failed).

Experience with series capacitors and hub dynamos?

What are you retrofitting into? You'll need to properly mount it with a thermal path to the outside or you'll fry the LED. You can get 6V or 12V Cree easywhite XLMs which are ideal for retrofitting to many cheap battery lights to convert to Dynamo...

Experience with series capacitors and hub dynamos?

The recommendation is to use low ESR caps. I've used the circuit below on lights for thousands of km with no issues. http://www.pilom.com/BicycleElectronics/DynamoCircuits.htm#Multi

Reducing/avoiding flicker in commercial front LED AC generator hub lamps:

A low powered battery light on the bars/helmet gives enough light to reduce the apparent flicker from the dynamo light at low speed. Last year I put a 1.5w hub (SHIMANO Deore XT DH-T780-1N) on my commuter with an Eyc and its fantastic for city riding. Blinks like hell at low speed which I see...
