Received a 7 Watt bulb from Kai today.

In preparation for the DFW Light Show tonight, I immediately took it apart.

Here is a photo of the aluminum PCB with Edison 1W emitters mounted and plastic reflector/lenses shown:

Here is a photo of the switching supply:

It uses a ST chip, but I could not read the number without more disassemby.

I checked the voltage to the 7 LEDs @ 24.1 VDC. Input power measured @ 7W. With supply conversion, that means underdrive for the LEDs.

Those are Edison Opto emitters of some kind? (Lumileds Chips?)

The base part looks plastic (with drive circuit), is it?

Also could you test its thermal output, running in a standard lamp of some kind?

Looks like you can easily replace the emitters for some newer Edison optos based on for a slightly more than doubling in output, that'd jack the price up tho.

Melchior;

The base is aluminum.

tebore;

I plan to replace the emitters with Cree 3 Watt XREs.

I'm waiting for some warm whites to mix with cooler more efficient whites I already have.

I think the light would deliver more lumens without the lenses and top aluminum plate.
