I am about to make this doodle with some old batteries i have, no idea how it will actually work or if its too tall but wanted to share with everyone else that wants to try it:

its just a QTC pill between 2 used AA positive contacts, keeping the contacts separate is a foam ring (optimally the usual ones you find in AA lights), it will keep the QTC in place, keep the contacts separate and make the return springier, i assume all that would make ramping the light more consistent/reliable. the foam ring would have to be glued to al least one of the contacts

the third positive contact would be soldered on top of the top contact just to ensure contact with the bottom of the battery, if it adds to much height i guess a solder blob could do; plenty of things can be done to improve this but its the general idea.

My QTC order hasnt arrived yet, i have this in my head and will try as soon as my order arrives.
