It's been a while since I've been active on the forum, car accidents and a month stay in the hospital will do that to ya. Anyway, I find myself at the National Hardware Show in Vegas last week and ran into our friends the Klarus folks who had a booth at the show.

I found among their offerings at the show the Prototype of the G20, one of the rechargeable 26650 Li-ion lights they are releasing in 2016. It caught my attention immediately and started coming home with me without waiting for the official release ETA end of May 2016. Nina of Klarus was kind enough to agree (after my badgering) to allow me this prototype for a pass-around on CPF before the G20 officially hit the US market.
It's been a while since my last passaround, so forgive me if there are something missing from the write up.

Basic Spec:
LED: CREE XHP-50 in OP reflector
Overall Length: 5 inches
Control: Dual Switch, side and tail clickie independent controls.

Lumen Output: 2450 - 2500 /650 / 160 /10

Nice to see that Klarus keeps up-to-date with their line-up. Unfortunately I'm not in the States, so can't participate.

Here is what came in the box I received for this pass-around.

Here is what the light looks like.

The emitter is in a shallow OP reflector, the tail switch is an electronic switch which operates the UI similar to the side switch. The UI for either switch is click for on, then click to cycle through 4 modes. The tail switch always starts on low, the side switch starts at last mode side switch was turned off at. To turn off is press and hold. Double click from on or off gets strobe, double click again for SOS, single click turns back off or to last mode light was on.

The side switch has a indicator light that comes on to indicate battery level when the light is first turned on. It stays on for a few seconds then goes out.

Size comparison to a P60 size light, also the Nitecore EC4S and Thrunite TN4A.

The light comes with a 18650 tube adapter, I noticed it had some contactor pins and the head had contactors around the center spring. I found that with the adapter the light runs about half power vs using a 26650 battery.

Overall it seems like a pretty good light. I like the size and form factor, and the UI just takes a little getting used to. The modes are spaced very well in my opinion with each having a noticeable jump in output. The beam pattern has a very large hot spot with lots of spill due to the shallow OP reflector.

Thanks for the opportunity to check this light out.

Is "turbo" part of the regular brightness settings, or is it only available when you keep the button depressed?

On this light that I tested turbo was a regular mode, just with the 18650 adapter turbo mode was cut in about half.

I'm not sure what a pass around is, but I would like to see some test results on this light. I haven't found any independent test results for this light. I think it would be a great light to have if it lives up to the mfr performance specs.

I'd love to see a detailed review of this flashlight, including comparisons to similar lights.

Any volunteers?

This light had the xhp-50, the new released version has the xhp-70. The new version has a much higher output then the one I tested out here.

Does this light basically have pretty good flood but not as much throw? Spec wise, it seems like the G20 has less throw than lights like Olight R50 Seeker or Acebeam EC50. Or is this the characteristic of the XHP70?

The xhp-70 in this size of light will be pretty floody, it does put out a lot of lumens. The hot spot will be very large on this light as well as very wide spill due to small fairly shallow reflector. I'm not sure but I think the R50 and EC50 have slightly bigger reflectors which would bump throw a little.

I just bought one of these last night in the groupbuy over at budget light forums. It just seemed like way too good of a deal to pass up, considering the price! If only they would have added a moonlight (1 lumen) and a 1300 lumen mode, this would have been damn near perfect!
