Hello to all of you ,

After my last dive trip to Mexico I would like to make some mod to my canister light as I think that the light output of this light is not as powerful as some other unit from other lights that I have seen .

My light is a Light Monkey 21 w led powered by a 10 AH canister Battery ,

I would like to know your opinions about changing the led that Light monkey uses and installing a more powerful one keeping the duration of batteries around 120 / 150 minutes

Thanks for all the information shared

As I see from pictures 10-21 uses old OSRAM OSTAR LEDS http://www.lightmonkey.us/#!untitled/zoom/c1qi7/image1san and led http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/54240.pdf

You have die surface 2,1mm*3,2mm and FRAEN reflector . Your led have 20.8V voltage @ 1A so you have to change driver and led together!

To keep same beam but more powerful , you have to search die with same size emitter.

so led you need is something like :

https://www.led-tech.de/en/High-Pow...-L-V6-on-Copper-Star-PCB-LT-2393_120_138.html

https://www.led-tech.de/en/High-Pow...EE-XM-L-U3-on-Copper-PCB-LT-1943_120_170.html

depending on where you live for drive would choose http://www.taskled.com/h6cc.shtml or pcb components

Hi Luca ,

In fact I was thinking in something more powerful than that , I prefer a wider beam , I need more light to enjoy the beautyness of the caves .
I was thinking in 3 xml or even 7 of them or maybe some other alternative

I live in Spain and I can get things fron Led tech , also I own a micro buck 2800 from pcb from an old project in 2012

What do you think ??

Regards

You want some hotspot... what size ?

I have from Fraen that size also medium reflectors (flat facets around center )

I'm more fan of single leds , because there is small space , you have to made good heat conduction....If you want even '' video beam'' I would use some bigger COB led from Bridgelux or Citizen.

If you miss some hotspot I would use some bigger led like SST-90 (Im still fan of them because of construction and true glass dome ) in combination with fraen reflector or some fresnel lense 35mm.

You need so called ''fast'' lense that mean focus same or shorter size than diameter of lense ( these are rare ) you can use 30/16 mm like

http://www.alibaba.com/product-deta...60422545057.html?spm=a2700.7724838.0.0.dPYoC1 and stack it right behind front glass

of course you can use other leds....

You are limited with space in first row...

Hello Luca ,

I do not want hot spot , I prefer more a wide light ,
I have checked Vero Cobs but their Voltage I think it is too much for my batteries , I am not sure
I suppose that using 3 XML like this :
https://www.led-tech.de/en/High-Pow...REE-XM-L-U2-on-round-PCB-LT-1791_120_117.html

or even 7 XML https://www.led-tech.de/en/High-Pow...2-U2-on-copper-round-PCB-LT-2091_120_117.html

would be enough if I am not wrong but as the XML have already some years that are in the market I was not sure if it would be a better option some xhp 70 or going with mkr ones
what do you think about it ??

Thanks in advance

3XML = 30W @ 34mm round MCPCB Cu

7XML = 70W @ 35mm round MCPCB Cu

1XHP=(6V*3A= 18W) or (12V*1,5A=18W) @ 21mm star MCPCB Cu

1MKR = (12V*1,25A = 15W)

new leds have better efficiency than old one. How efficient heatsink you could made ? I would stay close to your specific 21W or upgrade battery pack . I think of 3 these
