Welcome mate.
What lights do you currently own? $300 AUD is a very healthy budget. If you are very new to 18650 lights, you may want to start off by buying a couple single-18650 lights to observe the light output and get better ideas of what you may like before committing to a single more expensive light.
You could, perhaps, start by getting these two lights:
* Convoy C8 - Get the new silver one with the XP-L HI. The C8 in this configuration is a "thrower". You can also get this light in black but the silver will have the latest firmware by default. You could also order the black and request that he puts the latest "Biscotti" firmware on it (extra cost).
* Convoy S2+ - Get one with an XM-L2. The S2+ is more of a "balanced beam". You can also request that "Biscotti" is installed on these too.

Also make sure you are buying quality 18650 batteries if you don't already have them. Don't cheap out here.

HDS in 18650 gets very close to meeting those criteria listed above.
