I am doing some research on a DIY add on for my 3d printer for a laser engraver. I do not know much about lasers other than the higher the MW the more powerful the laser. I am currently looking at these two laser modules

One is a 5v 1600mw laser and the other is a 12v 500mw. Does the difference in voltage change anything? even though the 1600mw is the higher power laser, does the lower voltage change anything?

Thanks.

no, the voltage is the pre-driver voltage. the output is the spec to pay attn to. only thing you're have to worry about is supplying enough power from your machine, remember, it will draw more A at 5v than at 12v to achieve the same optical power out.
