Actually, i don't know if this is a KL head, most of my smaller surefires have the incan heads. Anyway, I managed to burn out the driver on this head, but the LED itself was fine.

I had a 15mm driver planned for another build, but decided to use it here. I took apart the head with a bit of heat from a propane torch, and then spent the next half hour removing threadlocking compound from the threads... My initial thought was to use the delrin-like ring, but quickly realized that the little metal ring wouldn't really work.
Apparently I didn't take any photos of making my brass driver holder, but it turned out fine.
While I was in there, took the opportunity to put in a bit of glow tape.
