Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and to working with LEDs in general.

I'm trying to figure out what driver I need to power a strip of four LEDs Cree XM-L U2. Each LED has the following ratings: 2.9-3.5V / 3A / 3W. The LEDs are wired in serial configuration.

Thank you so much.

Hi, and welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately, that's not really a simple question. There are so many considerations to take into account. There are literally dozens of different drivers that would work with that strip, with widely ranging characteristics. We'd need a lot more information to be able to give you useful suggestions.

What are you powering it from (batteries, line voltage, bicycle generator, gerbil on a wheel, zero point energy)? What voltage?

Is there a size or weight limitation or concern?

How important is efficiency?

Do you plan to push to the ratings? If so, do you know what you need for heatsinking?

How do you plan to conrtrol it? Do you need dimming, flashing, SOS, etc?

Are you aware that something's amiss in the ratings you quoted? The XM-L is generally considered a 10W class emitter. If the strip maker calls them 3W then I'd question the specs, or at least want to understand them better.

Add some more information and we'll be happy to help you out.
