Have a couple Fenix UC40 and UC40ue flashlights, and generally like them.
Picked them up cheap after they were discontinued. Good value, size, brightness, etc.

For internal charging they both only accept the proprietary Fenix battery?

From the Fenix website : "Tailored 3400 mAh/3.6V rechargeable Li-ion battery"

Did they just change the "connectors" on the battery? What is tailored?

Was there an engineering reason for this, or just marketing?

Going forward, I'm concerned about availability and pricing for replacement "tailored" Fenix batteries.

Is there a modification that would allow me to use standard rechargeable batteries and be able to internally charge?

I guess somehow the charging system makes a different connection with the battery than the flashlight itself does?
... since it can use standard externally charged or disposable batteries?
