I got two Duracell Durabeam 1000 that burned out after i tried to run them with 4 x rechargeable NiMH C-cells. They did run fine in before on 4 x primary c-cells. So i was thinking of trying to find a replacement LED and driver, and am looking for advise.

Taking the flashlight apart is not difficult, the problem for me is to find a driver that would fit:

The driver sits in the tailcap and has the switch on it. So its unclear to me what type of driver i could even get that would fix the problem... and what really the problem is. The drivers btw. are not broken, just the LEDs burned out.

With the driver sitting in the tailcap, all those drivers that effectively have 2 lines to connect to the battery and 2 connecting to the LED would not work. The driver really can only have the two connections to battery and LED in-line. And therefore i guess it can only regulate linearly or with PWM. Unless i am mistaken. In either case i wonder what made the LED burn out.

Any suggestions ?

Thanks!
