Hi, folks!

While cleaning up my little workshop, I found these pretty hosts in my storage and decided to bring them to life. :p I added ar-coated lenses, built complete new copper switch assemblies with much more reliable Omten switches (copper-bronze internals), improved the finish on the SS parts, combined it with my versatile interface and built it together using best available materials. The result is a quite nice and quality EDC-pocket-rocket.

Some facts:

  • LEDs on Notigon copper PCBs, glued down using:
  • own made thermal adhesive based on monocrystalline diamond (highest possibe heat conductivity)
  • anti-reflex-coated lenses
  • custom copper switch internal + much bigger Omten switch with copper-bronze contacts
  • copper-bronze springs
  • Low-voltage (ramp down + switch-off at 3V), over-heat and reverse polarity protection
  • diamond thermal adhesive potted circuit + diamond thermal grease on all relevant parts
  • for one cell (3.7V) only
  • multi mode group interface with the following functions:

EDC
(Every Day Carry): Moon - Low - Medium - High
(starts always on "moon" if the light was off for more than 0,7 seconds and mutes the moon mode if you circle through the modes.)

Regular Mode Memory: Low - Medium - High

(saves the last used mode if the light was off for more than 0,7 seconds.)

Police / Law Enforcement: High
- Medium - Low
(starts always on high if the light was off for more than 0,5 seconds)

Tactical: High
- Hidden Strobe
(the strobe can be activated with a fast double click und uses a mode memory. So you can directly start with strobe, if needed. A short interrupt within 0.5 seconds brings you back to the high mode)

The groups can be activated by 7, 8, 9 and 10 fast clicks. A voltage monitoring feature can be activated by 6 fast clicks.

The high mode is limited to 4 amps on this built.

Nice work, Vinz! What is the estimated light output on HIGH for #1 and #2 (de-domed and special treated<-click XP-G3 - 5500K)?
Do you have any beam shots? If not, what is the beam profile like (i.e. spot size compared to flood)?

Dear Vinz,

May I reserve a Nichia one (#4)? And a question: what is the max output would be?

A nichia 219b @ 4amp would be around 650 led lumen.

@Croquette - Received, thanks! Parcel already packaged. :)

@Flashlike - Just measured 14 kcd and the output seems to be in the 900 lm range. The color rendering of this 'special treated' LED is noticeable better than the same but non-dedomed LED and worlds better than just a regular dedomed LED. Due to the deep and narrow reflector, there is a small but bright spill and an intense spot, surrounded by a weak 'corona' half the size of the spill.
For such a deep reflector, a pretty nice beam profile.

4 amp on a dedomed xpg isn't something you find easily. A classic convoy on xml and 3 amp must be closer to 5k candela than 14k.

I don't think there is an industry standard that technically defines what a "pocket rocket" is. I believe it is just name that flashlight enthusiasts use to describe a flashlight that is relatively compact (i.e. will fit in a pocket) and has a much higher light output than a stock flashlight.

Just checked the tracking on mine and it says "Your item departed our USPS facility in QUEENS NY DISTRIBUTION CENTER on December 12, 2017 at 4:42 am. The item is currently in transit to the destination." Can't wait!

Just received mine today! (Convoy S4 with De-domed and special treated XP-G3 - 5500K). The tint is great -- a very slightly neutral white. This thing is SUPER BRIGHT on high. It took some practice for me to do the mode group change. On the fast taps (7, 8, 9, or 10 depending which mode group you want) you have to tap very quickly. Once you get used to the feel of the switch it gets a little easier.
Overall a really nice pocket rocket. Great work, Vinz!
