Hello All,

The currently available IMR offerings from reputable manufacturers in 18350 and 16340 seem to have similar capacities (700 - 800 mAH). My lights that take 18350 will also take 16340, but of course, my cr123/16340 lights cannot take 18350. Since the storage capacities of the two different batteries are not much different, is there any downside if I were to simply standardize on 16340 batteries for both? Your input is much appreciated.

A good 16340 is around 700mAH, and a good 18350 is around 1100mAh.

At any appreciable load (1A-2A), a quality IMR 16340, like AW, WindyFire, or AWT will have about 500mAh-625mAh of capacity, which are real world numbers.

18350 IMRs, from AW, AWT and WindyFire will have about 750mAh-900mAh at .5A, 1A, and 2A drains.

The newish Aspire 1100mAh 10A 18350 can give us about 1Ah-1100mAh, so almost double and they handle higher drains with aplomb.

While not labelled as "IMR", the protected 16340 batteries from Fenix and Klarus have capacities of 718mAh and 712mAh respectively, at a 1A load. At a 2A load, the capacities are 684 and 662.

So forgive me if this is a Nob question, but an can't you use an 18350 in a flashlight that takes a 16340? If CR123 are comparable in both lights? Mainly my question is I regards to my EDC fenix pd25. I came across the nitecore EC11 and it claims almost double the output then the PD25. I like the PD25 but would live to increase the run time wi th a decent 1100 mAh battery over my 700 mAh, which would give me a therotucal 57% improvement I capacity.. Thanks

If you have a flashlight that will take an 18350(18mm diameter and 35mm long) it will usually fit a 16340 (16mm diameter and 34mm long). Might be a little loose, or the use of a sleeve to take up any "rattle" so to speak. But if the flashlight is made around the 16340 cell, the 18350 will be too wide usually.

If you have a flashlight that does take 18350 cell/s, the aspire(or re-wrapped with various manufacturers labels, be it KeepPower/Ampsplus etc etc) is a must imo. The 10a and over 1100mah is almost double the energy of other 18350 cells.
