How old is this 6P?

My first high quality flashlight was a SureFire. A 6PL, it has inhabited the place of honor on my nightstand for the past several years. It's getting a bit long in the tooth though, and I want to upgrade its 80 lumens to something with a bit more oomph. A Malkoff M61N has been in my basket for a while now, just waiting for me to click the checkout icon.

One little problem though. Once I upgrade the 6PL, I'll be left with a spare LED head just lying about. I figured I might as well look for an old incandescent 6P. Found this.

Any problem with upgrading this 6P with my old 6PL head?

It'll fit just fine.

Good score btw.

Tailcaps swap too.

The tailcap on the bottom one is from the top one.

Your "new" score was likely early 1990's.

Looks like a second generation 6P that came out around the time the 3P was released. The larger, more pronounced button on the tail is the giveaway. I'd say around 1995 or 1996 maybe.

Received the 6P Classic today. Nice surprise, it's shorter and more compact than the 6PL and 6PX Pro, my only other SureFires. Not so pleasant surprise, the body has some inexplicable marks near the removable head. Looks like the stuff you see on a used pistol with a painted finish. Even weirder, the marks are also beneath the removable head. Not an area that would be marred by dropping a flashlight, which was my first guess.

Did SureFire ever sell seconds? This light is not up to the standards I'm familiar with.
