I was looking into a DIY build, and came accross the Convoy S4 host. From what I've read this host won't take a protected 18650. However, that is with the single Led setup with reflector and all.

I'm wondering if I was to use a host like this, but do a triple Led set up in it, would there be room for a protected 18650 since the reflector would be replaced by a Carclo lens?

Can we sway you to unprotected cells? Triples would really take advantage... Not to mention with the right driver there will be over discharge protection...

Not sure about S4, but people were shortening S2+.
But I agree with staticx57, better driver is the way to go.

Shortening the host is an interesting idea. Being new to this I was sticking with protected cells in all my lights for consistency and safety, so I haven't considered unprotected cells. For a driver, getting everything from one place that seems to be suggested to go together since it's my first build, I was looking at this one;

Should I consider something different?
