All drivers sometimes flash their headlights to send signals to other drivers, for example if one driver is having trouble making a left turn another driver might stop to let him make the turn, and then flash his headlights briefly to let the first driver know that he can safely turn now, or at night one driver might flash his high beams briefly to remind an oncoming car that he has forgotten to turn off his high beams. My question is, what is the NAME of this feature? I've read the word "headlight flasher", but that is often used to mean a circuit that makes the headlights flash in a certain pattern, such as might be used in a car burglar alarm or on an emergency vehicle. I've read the term "flash to pass ", but of course that refers specifically to passing. German has a nice word for it: Lichthupe, which literally means "light horn". Does anyone know of a good word for this feature?
