A fun project with a Yuji 5mm 5600K High CRI LED and an old Pelican flashlight. 3 C size batteries is too much for the emitter, so I used packed aluminum foil to fill the spot where a third battery goes. I also used waxed, thick thread used for leather stitching to be able to remove the foil spacer when needed. A folded strip of foil completes the circuit from negative end of batteries to the dropin.

Thanks for that, I have a few saberlights that are collecting dust. They were my mainstays until I discovered this place.
Too busy now it's the beer season, but this might make a jolly project for the Winter.
I converted a Peli 4D with a P60 drop in, before I realised that they need heatsinking, but it works as a demo piece. Never tried to run it for more that 2 minutes.
So glad someone else takes stuff apart.

Well done. The mini-maglites already run really long with a Yuji in them. With 2 C-cells, that light is going to run pretty much forever.

Got that right.
This quick kludge does not favor keeping both batteries in it however. It has a tendency to want to stay on, even when unscrewing the head a lot. It should be said that I gutted the electronic related parts years ago, including the metal strip inside the body used to complete the negative path. This complicated the retrofit.

Dear Sir Yetman,
So appreciate reading your posts.
This Pelican is so used and scratched, with the plastic lens just in horrible shape. The (not very reflective) reflector/dropin unit had been sitting on a shelf for recycling a couple of years as well. Was wondering the condition of yours?

Nice.

I have an old orange 2C Pelican, and it's still in mint condition. Plus I have a bunch of the 2AAA penlights.

I think they're OK althought I couldn't swear to it. I'll check at the barn today.

Very cool mod. Wide angle 5mm LED's work great with incan reflectors from Mini-mag size to large.

Also, thanks for reminding me that I bought some of these in a group buy recently. Totally forgot. :ohgeez:
