Today there are numerous news reports that the US will be imposing 25% tariffs on over 1000 types of Chinese goods, including some batteries. Below are the batteries subject to such tariffs. Currently they do not include secondary Lithium (Li-ion), but they include some other common batteries that you may use (e.g. primary Lithium, NiCd, lead-acid, etc). If things play out similar to recent events this may quickly lead to a sharp rise in battery prices (e.g. laundry washing machine prices quickly jumped by 17% this spring after similar tariffs). So it might be wise to stock up on such batteries now before the effects of the tariffs kick in.

If this sticks, I'm curious if we might also see a price change on the US-mfg (yes?) Panasonic lithium primaries, funny how that stuff can go sometimes.

Trade wars. Do people not realize it's the importing country's businesses and consumers that pay the tariffs? The government wins, as it just pockets all those tariffs as extra taxes. No wonder governments love trade wars. Consumers are the ones really being screwed. Less money in your pocket, more money in the government's pocket.

Just a FYI, this thread was initially locked upon submission due to concerns over the possibility of it devolving into politics - what many on this forum hope to escape by congregating here, lol.

This thread, while providing important & timely information to members, will not be exempt from those requirements.

Thank you & best regards,

Without the increase in cost, shipping cost of Li-ion from China went through the roof a few years ago due to foreign and domestic law banning Li-ion from certain shipping methods. That already hurt, but at least it makes sense from a safety perspective.

Thanks for the info.

Please keep opinions out of this. It's like noses. We all have one and they all differ. Yet this thread has potential to be very imformative so long as the topic is kept on track.

So please, pretty please with sugar on top.... let's stay on topic.

Worth mention is that the tariffs apply to many other items of interest to electronics hobbyists, e.g.

multimeters (instruments for measuring or checking electrical voltage, current, resistance or power), automatic voltage/current regulators, electric soldering irons and guns, fuses, relays, switches, LEDs, touch screens, transistors, parts of diodes, electrical signal generators, insulated copper wire, etc.

You can find the complete list in the pdf file linked in the OP.
