What in the world do I have?

I recently purchased this Delta electric company flashlight(or whatever you call it). I am trying to figure out what it actually is. Somebody I talked to said it might be a coal mining light. It appears to have had a serious short or something cause the cord is melted terrible. Any info would be a big help.

They need to be uploaded to a photo sharing site like Imgur, then locate the share option on the picture site, then click on the square picture box at the top of the Post Quick Reply. It's the third one from the right at the top of the Quick Reply box on your post page. Then click on the From URL option, then past the share link in the box and click Post Quick Reply at the bottom right of the page.

It takes some trial n error, but with a little patience and some learning curve it can be done.

Delta Electric made industrial lighting a while back. Some would call them 'coal miners lamps' or 'railroad lamps'. They did some tube lights for the US Navy for WW2 as well, but specialized in lights to be used for casting light similar to propane or candle powered lanterns but in situations where those lanterns may cause explosions.
