I just got an Olight S1R and I am thrilled! It is my first expensive light!

So how expensive is your mist expensive light? And how often do you use it?Congratulations! But sorry to discourage you, "expensive" here supposes 4-digit numbers

the only lights that (from what I can tell) can compare with the S1R are the Mecarmy PT16 and the Nitecore EC11.
Congratulations, an excellent choice and one that, of only three lights, earns its place for Every Day Carry jean pocket rotation for me.I just got an Olight S1R and I am thrilled! It is my first expensive light!

And I believe it is an expensive light. Sure, you can spend 3-figures and get more utility, more durability etc, but once you get to 4-figures (excluding Cool Fall), you're paying for aesthetics and fancy materials rather than anything that makes it a better illumination tool. As such, a lot of the 4-figure stuff spends its life in the protective foam of a Peli case, only being brought out to look at, photograph, have a quick play, and then put back again. Most never see any proper use.
So enjoy your S1R, it's expensive, but staggeringly good value for the utility and quality. And most importantly, it is a light that satisfies my mantra of "Use your tools".

My S1R and S2R are nice lights but they step down after 3 seconds and sometimes they won't even go into turbo.
Running original Olight Li-ions in there? Have they exhibited this behaviour from new, or has it come gradually?

Likely battery issue. Possible solution:I've experienced the same issue with S1 Ti and Olight 16340 cell: while freshly charged it manages to feed the max mode, but once its voltage drops below 4V its protection cuts off on max. Need to open tail cap and close again to be able to use lower modes.
nothing wrong with tailspring, but this...As you know short circuiting is very serious and could result in venting with flame. What is the tailspring flaw that causes this? I would assume a primary will short circuit if a li ion will?
shhhh... ... I secretly agree with you....Just looks like a really bad idea
It is "somewhat" OverDischarge protected if discharge at >5A (according to spec sheet from manufacturer) but I manage to damage one by overdischarge it by tricking the light into thinking the cell is a Primary CR123A......
I would welcome definitive info whether the S1R IMR battery is OverDischarge protected or not
