    Default Hi from Downunder

    Hi there, Dave here.
I’m a new oldie - I was an addicted CPFer for a number of years in the early 2000s but it was getting expensive so I gave it all up to help pay the mortgage (I’m sure you know how it goes).
I’d always been interested in quality lights and the more desirable mods, like the crazy incans of yesteryear (Mag85, USL, crazy tricked up AA minimag etc) and the emergence of LEDs as they overtook incans for brightness and efficiency.
Hope to see a few old faces around here once more, and get a handle on where things are heading and who’s doing what these days

    Thanks nbp.

Thanks Ven, every time I look there’s a new iteration, back to single die but brighter, TIR optics, and vastly improved battery performance too. It’s amazing how far they’ve come!
I think I might be here looking for my next edc grail light (a 6P served me well for many years, and an HDS EDC 60 after that). Where I used to go for “the brightest possible” I think I’ve outgrown my need to impress everyone I come across, and now it’s about readiness, efficiency, ruggedness, reliability: understated but a work of genius design, & no fancy “16 assorted strobe modes accessible through merely 11 double-clicks and a twist of the tailcap”. Please feel free to point me in the right direction.
I’m off now to go do some lurking and learning

    Dave.

Gday Mike, East Gippsland here (away from the city lights, where the nights are dark and flashlights get to show their stuff )

I definitely feel for folks who live in the city: flashlight beams don’t have the same beauty when they’re competing with a flood of sodium and neon.
