I need a good flashlight. I spend a lot of my free time looking for critters (snakes, salamanders, bats, etc) in caves and rock outcrops. It needs to be durable and rain proof. For the last four years I have been using a Fenix HP-05 headlamp. It has developed a short where the cable enters the light. The only time I used this light on my head was when hiking out of the mountains at night. Otherwise, I use it handheld, which is probably why it developed the short.

I was really liking what I saw in the Streamlight Pro Tac 2L-X, until I saw it only has 2 settings, 40 lumans (to low) or 500 lumans (to high). 250-350 is all I really need. 500 lumans is great, if there are other settings as well. My headlamp was 350 lumans max and it was perfect. What I used most was the high setting, before turbo, think it was 250 lumans? The most important thing is that it is dependable.

Thanks for any help,
Derek
