The problem is VOLTAGE!!!

I have an MD2 and 6P both equipped with an M61 drop in. I have a Z41 with McClicky and Centurion C2 clicky tail cap for the 6P. The MD2 of course has a Malkoff tail cap. Both lights with all three tail caps exhibit the same behavior. With a 16650 or 18650 there is mild flickering in momentary mode. Everything is steady while in constant on. When the batteries are low the flickering is more pronounced in momentary mode . With two CR123's or 16340's the flickering is absent.

These drop in's like voltage!

The M61 has an input voltage range of 3.4 - 9v. Flickering is not normal within those specs. Did you try stretching the springs or cleaning the contacts?

It doesn't flicker at all with the cr123's (6.5 volts) or 16340's (8.4 Volts). Definitely not a contact issue.

I also have a flicker, but I know that this is due to poor contact inside the button. Have you tried the unprotected 18650 and 16650? And please tell me the brand of your protected batteries.

Haven't tried unprotected. I've used an Evva 3500mah protected 18650 69mm's. And a keeppower 2500mah protected 16650 68mm's. Two cr123's equals 68.4mm's and two Fenix protected 16340's equals 68.8mm's. All battery combinations are within 1mm so length Likely isn't a factor here.
