Help C9000 doesn't work.
I received my C9000 today and it doesn't work. I plugged it in, put batteries in; it lit up but does not seem to detect batteries. I first put 4 brand new eneloops and it started to flash different things that didn't make sense I poked around the arrows and sorts to see if I could do something but it just kept flashing different things but never said or stayed on one thing. I took the batteries out to make it stop, then put them back in and all it does now is light up and that's it. I also put some panasonic in and it still doesn't do anything. So now what? I live in Mexico and it won't be easy to return to Thomas Distributing. Any suggestions anyone? Hold I just noticed the Panasonic's are getting a little warm maybe it is charging but don't know. I'll leave them on and see what happens. I waited for 20 minutes and the batteries where getting warmer so I decided to unplug and take batteries out because it wasn't giving me any info on what it was doing. I'll see tomorrow if it does anything different. This is really sad.

Re: Help C9000 doesn't work.
It shouldn't be hard to return it. Contact Thomas first, see what they say, and if you need to return it go to the post office and send it to them. What's so difficult about that?

Re: Help C9000 doesn't work.
Firstly, are you using AA or AAA size batteries? The C9000 is notoriously fussy with AAA batteries -- sometimes they don't make good electrical contact at the negative end because of the wrapped around insulation.
If you are using AA batteries electrical contact should not be a problem, but some people have had issues at the positive end. Wiggle and twist the batteries a bit to see if that makes any difference.
When you put a new battery in you should see a blinking cursor next to the menu at the left hand side. Do you not see that at all?

It does do that when you first plug it in.

It never does. The display is always changing.

I have seen the C-9000 do this, but only with really bad cells. The display will either be lit up but blank and stay that way when you insert the cells, or at first be lit up but blank, and then go dark. Again, I've only seen this with really high IR cells.

This seems to suggest that the charger is charging, but it should alternate various information if, it really is charging.
Other than that, I really can't help you. You could try calling Thomas, or Maha, and see what they say, I guess.
Good Luck,
Dave

AA,,, I tried again this morning and now it seems to detect, I put two panasonics on both ends and it seems to be doing something because it goes from one to the other but it just flashes and does not make sense, it does not show what mode is in,, one of the things it blinks is set battery capacity but then the buttons don't respond. The batteries do get slightly warm so it must be doing something. Can I send you a movie to some email? If so please send through here or private massage. Or ask me any question you like and I’ll answer as best I can.

I think the desplay is bad, because the letters or numbers aren't complete, you can't read them. Isn't it soppose to let you know the mode you're in? The arrows don't seem to do anything, the slot botton does because it changes fron 1 to 4,, the enter doesn't seem to do anything either. I'm taking a movie and putting on you tube, I'll send link as soon as I do. OK?

Re: Help C9000 doesn't work.
Yeah, I'd say you have a defective unit palomino77.
A picture is worth a thousand words, actually a movie is worth quite a bit more.
That's too bad. I'd contact TD and tell them what you've got, maybe send them the link to the video as well, and see what they say. Could be they'll refer you to Maha.

Re: Help C9000 doesn't work.
Your display is not working right thats for sure.
Thomas Distributing is a good company. I'm sure they will make it right. Hopefully it doesn't cost you any money to exchange your charger or get a refund if desired.

Thank you,
I just contacted Thomas Dist. and they are going to send a new one.
I get to keep this one for spare parts. Good service by the way,, Brent was very good about it, I recommend them.
Tomorrow I'll take the video down, I don't want them to get a bad rap because of one bad one.

Since you're so adept at making a movie, I'd be curious to see your unit's ' Power On Self Test'. A proper example is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZg234v2MY8
Also, just to confirm, your power is 110VAC @ 60 cycles - correct?

...What is the voltage of the electric power?
Electric power in Guadalajara is of 110 volts and 60 cycles, the same power output used in the United States and Canada. If you have appliances working with 220 volts ask for adaptors at your hotel's reception desk. Also take into consideration that outlets have flat slots.

Re: Help C9000 doesn't work.
Oh, I don't know palo. Since you have no way to tell what the charger is really doing, I don't think I'd try to use it. Maybe if you just want to play around with it, you could try some junk cells in it, but that's all I'd care to do with it. You don't want to screw up your good cells.

- Unplug C9000
- Remove all cells
- Start camera
- Plug in C9000
- If/When display backlight shuts off, stop camera
2. I want to see if is possible to break in 4 of my new eneloops but as soon as I put in it just seats there with the backlight on and that is it. Sometimes it warms the batteries up and flashes, and sometimes it doesn’t do anything.
Personally, I wouldn't put ANY NEW / GOOD CELLS into that charger. You can experiment with ONE (preferably old) cell in Slot #1. But, first I think you need to RTFM and understand HOW the charger operates. WATCH a few of those YouTube videos.
You can also read through the Maha MH-C9000 SUPPORT / FAQ Thread.
I understand your EXCITEMENT on finally getting your hands on a great 'Smart Charger/Analyzer' and your DISAPPOINTMENT on it not working properly. You may just have to wait a few more days for C9000 #2 to arrive.
SLOW DOWN, grab your 'favorite beverage' and read up on the C9000.
3. Will this thing choose the right mAH etc for charging and discharging and breaking in? In case I make it work I don’t think I could choose manually.
No. RTFM!
4. Once it starts doing something, what is the best way to stop it? Take batteries out, unplug or what?
I usually just take the cells out.
5. Guadalajara uses same current as US. Do you think it could be the power supply?
Just thinking about possibilities.
Maybe a plug became 'half-unseated' inside. Who knows???

I think I'll wait until the new C9000 arrives and maybe I can figure what this one is doing. Most of the time when I put batteries in, it just turn on the back light and that is it, no flickering nothing, it doesn’t even warm up the batteries.
Thank you for all the help. I really do appreciate it. I will keep you posted on what is happening and maybe bother you a little more once the new one arrives. You’re a great bunch of guys.
