How about a AA version of the Fenix E01 ?

At the same price, with the same reliability (spring loaded twisty, potted), simplicity, features (10 lumens, knurled, HA), 4sevens excellent support, and 3x the E01 runtime (30 hrs flat, 45 hrs usable on an alky AA - which is also about 3x the Infinity Ultra runtime), it would easily be an Infinity Ultra killer.

As you start missing on these points (especially price...), it will pick up a lot of competition.

I doubt fenix will make one.. it would cut into the sales of all their other AA lights. What is the lowest price AA fenix light? almost $40?

$48.50 is the lowest price (before discount) for a current Fenix 1xAA light - L1T V2.0

$38.00 is the lowest price (before discount) for a current Fenix 2xAA light - E20

They have room for one in their lineup for a AA E01, but the Infinity Ultra already meets a lot of the wishes posted in this thread.
They'd be reinventing the wheel unless they did a two mode version.

No doubt the Nitecore D10 is a great light, but part of my thinking here is that the E01 is about US$15, so IF Fenix could make a AA version for similar money we could afford three or four of them for the same price as one D10. This would make them handy for power outage purposes to use around the house but have the convenience of the AA cell.

I would still have a D10 as well

Possibly, but it might also make a lot of people upgrade to the more expensive AA light as well. I think quite a few on this forum have a E01 (or a couple) and a LOD or LD01 as well.

Maybe, but such a light would fit a niche that hasn't been fully occupied since CMG was bought by Gerber. Namely, a bomb-proof, long running, 5mm LED, AA-based light. I trust Fenix can develop a light that fits that bill. I might even consider replacing one of my 14 or so CMG lights... :crazy:
 
I think they would need more to differentiate the AA E01 to the AAA than just runtime. I'd like to see it brighter than 10, but still have better runtime than the E01 and maybe better flood. Another thing that would be a great feature would be a standard screw tripod mount while still being able to tailstand with a keyring. Doesn't Nichia have a newer more efficient Rigel?
 
I was thinking Fenix used a Rigel in the old E1. That was a pretty decent light, especially its regulation, but the tint was quite blue/purple, and its runtime never matched the new E01. Might be a bit brighter. What sort of bothers me about the Nichia GS is its potential life compared to the older DS used in the E0, not that those few thousand hours will ever make a difference in real use. That part just seems like a step backwards for a dubious improvement in tint.

after replacing my 5mm arc clone with a LD01 SS..... I think 5mm LED beams really suck..... color/tint is a crap shoot, beam pattern is blotchy the only thing is the better nichias look worse for more efficiency than the 35K generics I have. They need to get an intermediate design for a 3/4 watt LED with a slug on the bottom big enough to heatsink for 100ma output and if attached to a heatsink up to 250ma and make the emitter like the luxeons and crees but keep the price under $3 and make it almost as efficient as the top bins.
 
I would love a AA version to compliment my AAA E01. Same brightness just longer runtime.

The extra runtime would helpful during all the hurricanes down here in Florida.

Has anyone contacted Fenix?

I just won an E01, I can't wait to see what all the fenix hype is about. I'm a die hard Romisen/Surefire user to this point.

Just thinking of price...Fenix could sell the AA body for $10 and still makes a profit.
Also, the AA-body idea avoids "specification-creep" :
"While we're at it, let's make it have 300 lumens, run for 68 hr on hi, and have 32 modes...all for $15." :)

If you want an AA version of an E01, then make an AA tube for an E01.
 
I don't really think it would be possible for them to make a AA tube to fit on the EO1 head because it would be too thick. the head of an E01 is 1.4 cm in diameter and the standard AA is 1.6 cm.

Like This...
AA body-tube with necked-down threaded section to mate with E01 head,
and a 'contact spring' to make electrical connection to the E01 head.
Battery replacement thru a threaded tail cap.

Heck, using this method, they could even make a "C-Cell E01", or a D-Cell version that'd run for years...if anybody was interested. :)
