What's the most prudent strategy?

-buy eb2 and e2dl then swap the heads & sell (who would want an eb2 with defender head)?
-put L1 delrin tailcap ring on eb2, assuming it fits (same dia.)?
-eb2 + z68 last resort (has solid shroud).

It's not listed under switches, but is there even a part no. for the scalloped shroud on the e2d's?

edit- will this eb2 head fit on a classic e2d defender?

Do want!

My want list includes the EB2, new E1L, and maybe the new E2L-A. Surefire, however, is bad about getting product out and even though the new outdoorsmans are out there, they are very limited in circulation and I can't find them with the newer 2-way clip.
 
So I'm assuming that the EB2 with tactical switch is going to be the realization of the LX2 Ultra, just under a different name? Very good looking light, although I wish they'd been able to make the head slightly smaller.
 
I think the real thing lacking on the EB2 will be a higher low. While I generally prefer lower lows in most lights a 15,25 or 50 lumen low would be much more useful in a light with such a high primary output. Adding more modes might be even better but there is something to be said for the simplicity of a Surefire.

Off topic slightly, but I agree. I've always wished Surefire's "low" was 50 lumens instead of 5-15. Just seems like my Fury is either way too bright, or way too dim for the task at hand.

Guess that's why God gave us Vinh and Nailbender!
 
Man, that looks sharp. I may have to pick one of these up. I would be first in line if the tailcap functioned like the lx2.

I agree. 2-mode lights with such a bright high output(and therefore short runtime) could have a low of 50lm or so.
For the Outdoorsmans with their moderate high modes(and several times better runtime) a 5lm low or maybe even less, is good, however.

Depends on your needs. there are other lights that have the multiple modes (Zebralight comes to mind), but surefire has the simplicity of low high :) I would prefer to have a low low, to preserve runtime, in times of emergency, etc. but to each his/her own.
 
Am I the only one that thinks the EB1/EB2 look uninspired compared to the LX2 and other older E-series lights? Also appears to be much too slick for a solid grip.

So it's going to have a 5 lumen low mode? Anyone with a E2D Ultra want to comment on the 5 lumen low and how they like it?

I agree with others here that even my Fury with 15/500 low/high modes seems inappropriate for alot of lighting situations.

I have the 200 lumen E2DL and the EB1, and one or the other is almost always on my person. The 5 lumen low works very well for me. It provides enough light for many tasks where a lot of light is not needed, and where I have no desire to run down my batteries. I like limiting the light to 2 modes. If I end up in the wrong mode, I can get to the right mode quickly. A good user interface > more modes.

Count me in, I personally find it really difficult to appreciate the look of EB2.
 
Hey yeah it just looks like a sleek black rod, where's the inspiration? Where's my motivaaation?!

I think I've got something for it though. Spyrish do you remember, what was the part designation on the head? I think my best strategy is to wait for that a la cart on the accessories page, if it will be the kx2c replacement single mode or otherwise. Instead of buying & swapping, then trying to sell leftovers parts no one wants.
 
I'll be the voice of dissent and say I like the EB2's look. Not that I didn't like the LX2 better, but as I mentioned in my EB1 mini-review, the simplified aesthetics are a welcome change. Also, at least it doesn't look like the S2 Stratus....
 
Another fact I just noticed is the EB2 will be quite long for a 2xCR123 Surefire light:

EB2 5.8"
E2DU 5.6"
LX2 5.4"
Fury 5.4"
E2L 5.25"
6PX 5.2"
L4 5.1"

Getting close to not fitting into my jeans pockets anymore. These lights just keep getting bigger over the years.
