I haven't found one that would fit yet. You can't put it between the reflector and the body as you end up with a badly focused LED.

The clip was a wire (?) type that wrapped around the small O.D. of the light below the tail cap which would make it a bezel down set up / carry. The poster, posted the Coleman light he got it from, but can't remember the model. At the time, (for grins) I was planning on buying the light, but never got around to it. I think, either it came that way or if he added shrink tubing to it to keep it from scratching the body of the light.

So if you use the data sheets and find similar emitters it should work fine.

This is the clip I got when I bought my Rotary.

I think it's a Fenix clip. It is quite secure, and there is a small homemade groove on the back where the screw on the rotary tail fits nicely keeping it from sliding sideways. It would be no problem adding some shrink tube to protect the body even more.


I have the light on my work and are on holiday, but if interest I can take some close ups and post them early august. I am not a clip guy so I have not used it a lot, but I think it works very well.

In all seriousness though, since you've just name-checked some well-known CPF modders / makers here... I noticed that Vinh had been modding lights with CREE XPL emitters. Any chance for Henry to get his hands on some and test on existing hardware/setup?Edmund

I'll only drop names of those I have personally dealt with and know to be fine upstanding individuals who I would be happy to share a drink with and I'm very particular who I will have a drink with... just not so particular what that drink is as long as it's a stout or rum!
I've not had Vinh modify any of my lights, but it would be between him and Henry to do the testing. Henry doesn't have a problem at all with folks modifying or doing emitter swaps. After all, it's your light. I've even known him to fix a few that were modified and the "magic smoke" left the light making it inoperable even though modding it voids one's warranty.

Thanks Jonnor, like yourself I don't use a clip, but I bought the Fenix clip on clip awhile back. I still have it, but it's, .... heck I haven't seen it in awhile. I'll see if I can find the post in HDS #16 when I have the time for thoughs who may be interested.

With now 17 threads there are quite a lot of useful information hidden somewhere, making some double posting and silly questions from people like myself. Luckily there are some very nice people here with a lot of patients.

I already dinged up the anodizing on the tailcap of my new rotary:( That got me wondering - how likely would it be to have tailcaps made that match the bezel materials? That seems like it would have benefits not only aesthetically but functionally.

Someone asked about that in the last thread I think and Hogo was going to ask Henry about steel tailcaps... not sure what ever became of that idea. I like it!

I did bring this up to Henry a few months back. I'll bring it up again and see what he says. As I recall, he stated that it was possible.

Yeah, that was me. A steel tailcap would be nice cause then you'd have SS on both ends, where it's most likely to contact if dropped. Even if it were only available as a separate option I'd still buy one or two.

Same here. I like the look of the newer SS bezels, instead of polished and shiny, (lovely, btw), they have a rough look which probably has an interesting name that I don't know.
Man, sign me up for SS tailcap AND whatever new tube he comes out with!

Just kidding, it's the head and tail of my new Clicky 200.
I'll be modding it, but I have to say that even the "cool" emitters are pretty decent. Not like the old days!
The XP-Ls will be here Thursday, but if I didn't have the ability to swap them I'd hardly be complaining about the tint. This is a kicka$$ light.
Come to think of it, I may put the XP-Ls in the 42 and Legacy first to see if they play well.

Same here. I like the look of the newer SS bezels, instead of polished and shiny, (lovely, btw), they have a rough look which probably has an interesting name that I don't know.

It's known as stonewashed. It's a popular finish for knife blades since it hides scratches and marks very well.
